From “King of the world” to “You like me, you really like me,” Academy Award winning speeches typically are self absorbed or laced with fashionable liberal ramblings.
However, this year, the Oscar acceptance speeches had some positive things to say that oddly mirrored some of the speeches that were given at the Movieguide® Gala two weeks ago. Oscars are getting more family friendly, and we are thrilled with the trend.
We thought Movieguide® readers would like to read some of the speech highlights that we found especially moving.

Studies by Nielsen PreView show that the box office success of Oscar nominees is the "most important predictor of overall Academy Award viewership" on TV.
Thus, the last time the Oscar telecast had a high rating was in 2004, when the blockbuster LORD OF THE RINGS: RETURN OF THE KING won Best Picture.
Ratings for the 2010 ceremony are expected to be huge, with three major blockbusters, including UP, THE BLIND SIDE and AVATAR, vying for major awards throughout the night.

In February, popular singer and composer Elton John said, "I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems."
Elton John's statement shows the severe lack of knowledge of our age.
For centuries, people who were educated had read the Bible. The Bible makes it clear that Jesus Christ says that He is God and proves that He is God. As C.S. Lewis says, from the Bible we can only conclude that Jesus is God, a lunatic, or something worse. The resurrection and transformation of billions of lives is the seal of approval of His Godhood. As such, He is neither a vengeful man as Martin Scorsese portrayed him in THE LAST TEMPTATION OF JESUS CHRIST, nor an auto-erotic self-obsessed hedonist as ...
A new Harvard study of recessions around the world from 1970 to 2007 shows that tax cuts are the best way to end a recession and increase the number of jobs, thereby reducing unemployment rates.
Conversely, the study showed that increases in government spending tend to make recessions last longer and unemployment to remain high.
Two respected Harvard economists, Alberto F. Alesina and Silvia Ardagna, conducted the study

One of president Obama's early mentors in Illinois politics was Alice Palmer, a Communist Party member who wrote positive pieces about the Soviet Union and some of its satellite countries, including East Germany, Czechoslovakia and Bulgaria.
Obama was Palmer's chief of staff when she was an Illinois State Senator in the 1990s, the very seat that Obama eventually took before he became a U.S. Senator.
It was Palmer who introduced Obama at Obama's political fundraiser held in the home of Marxist terror bomber Bill Ayers!
Palmer worked with the International Organization of Journalists (IOJ), a documented Soviet front group. As IOJ vice president in the 1980s, Palmer worked closely with the highest levels of the Soviet propaganda machine, in...

Movies with Christian, redemptive content and movies by Christians are experiencing a dramatic growth. The number of movies with positive Christian content has increased from less than one percent each year to nearly 50 percent. The number of movies produced by Christians also has increased dramatically, especially since the release of FIREPROOF. Some of them are excellent.
To understand the future of Christian cinema, we need to look at the past. In the early days of the entertainment industry, may of the movies were Passion Plays, Nativity stories and morality tales. Thomas Alva Edison gave the founder of the Salvation Army, William Booth, a film camera in the 1890s, and Booth used ...

LETTERS TO GOD is the first of three faith-based family films the newly formed film company Possibility Pictures will produce. MOVIEGUIDE® had the opportunity to visit the film set in Kissimmee, Florida at "Give the Kids the World" village where Executive Producer Tom Swanson, Director David Nixon, and Producer Kim Dawson and the cast and crew members were furiously working on the final days of production.
LETTERS TO GOD is an inspiring film based on a true story of a young boy coping with cancer and the tremendous impact his faith had on the people around him. Although it is a drama, LETTERS TO GOD is filled with laughter, love, hope, and triumph. The cast includes entertainment veterans, talente...
