What the Snapchat hack reveals about online privacy and a culture adrift
by Daniel Weiss
“Think about this: A small flame can set a whole forest on fire. The tongue is a small flame of fire, a world of evil at work in us. It contaminates our entire lives. Because of it, the circle of life is set on fire. The tongue itself is set on fire by the flames of hell.”
James 3:5b-6 (CEB)
Last week we learned of yet another Internet hacking scheme in which supposedly private photos were stolen and shared online. The first round of leaked photos invaded the privacy of well-known Hollywood stars and other celebrities. This time, the innocence of average folks—including many children—was violated.

What’s Your Test for Truth?
By Dr. Tom Snyder, Editor
What’s your test for truth? How do you personally determine whether your beliefs are true, false, just, and unbiased?
Every reasonable person starts with the basic assumption that knowledge is possible. To say or believe that knowledge is not possible is self-contradictory because the person assumes that at least that knowledge is possible.
The two charts below answer the question: How can I know whether the knowledge I have is true? They provide an introduction to critical thinking for teenagers and adults. As such, they attempt to create a more intelligent, thoughtful citizenry by helping people use rational arguments that observe the basic laws of logic and objectively w...

Who’s Your Scriptwriter?
By David Outten, Production Editor
You are the lead actor in the story of your life.
How good is your story?
Circumstances have an impact, but the heart of our story is written, directed and played by us. The decisions we make shape much of what we experience. We don’t get to write in things like hurricanes, recessions and terrorist attacks, but we do write our reaction to them. Day-by-day, moment-by-moment, we write our story.
Unlike a Hollywood scriptwriter, we don’t get rewrites. When we do or say something, it remains part of our story for life. It’s so easy to become a senior citizen, look back and think, “I wish I could be young again but have all the knowledge I’ve gained in 60 years ...
A Message that Actor Stephen Collins Needs to Hear
By David Outten and Dr. Ted Baehr
Stephen Collins, an actor who played an exemplary character on 7th Heaven for 243 episodes between 1996 and 2007 has reportedly confessed to inappropriate sexual behavior with three young girls.
Stephen provides a lesson for parents and for boys and men. You can be involved in all sorts of good things and still fall prey to evil.
Only ten percent of children who are molested are molested by strangers. Sixty-eight percent of molested children are molested by family members. Forty-eight percent were molested by stepfathers and uncles. Ninety-three percent of child molesters are religious. This is partly because being religious reduces suspicion and ...

Dancing with DUCK DYNASTY:
Sadie Robertson’s Faith Takes Center Stage on “Dancing with the Stars”
By Diana Tyler, Contributing Writer
Most of us would describe the runaway hit TV show “Duck Dynasty” with terms such as “redneck,” “duck hunting,” “bayou,” “backwoods,” and, of course, “beards.” However, I would argue that the word the Robertson family would most like their viewers to associate them with is the word faith.
Dynasty heiress 17-year-old Sadie Robertson has made it her mission to represent her family’s Christian values and let her faith shine during her stint on this season of “Dancing with the Stars.” The teenager follows in the footsteps of “Full House” star Candace Cameron-Bure who...
Dear Christians. . . Please Don’t Leave Us Behind
Ben Kayser, Managing Editor
Last weekend, LEFT BEHIND brought in only $6.3 million. Considering its bloated budget of $15 million dollars, not including its costly marketing campaign, it’s no secret that this is a blow to the faith-based movie market, along with other recent box office bombs.
There’s multiple reasons SON OF GOD, GOD’S NOT DEAD and HEAVEN IS FOR REAL left Nicolas Cage and his co-stars behind in box-office failure. Lack of quality storytelling and poor marketing are just a few of those reasons (Cage’s performance actually gave the movie the little authenticity it had). At a deeper level, LEFT BEHIND no longer resonates with Christians because I believe most ...
