The Purpose and Meaning of Talent:
Behind the Scenes of WHIPLASH
Job Garcia, Contributing Writer
Are aspirations, talents and abilities inherently good? If so, what are the purposes of them, and how do we go about accomplishing their intended purpose?
For Christians, answering these questions properly requires developing a biblically sound perspective of aspirations, talents and abilities. Thus, aspirations, talents and abilities are inherently good, but they must be subject to God’s will and used for His glory and honor. We must not limit aspirations, talents and abilities to the realm of the sacred. God himself is responsible for placing those aspirations, talents and abilities, but we are in a fallen world, so we have to make s...
Matthew McConaughey on the Redskins Controversy:
Oscar Winning Actor Opposes Name Change but Thinks Change Is Inevitable
Oscar winning actor Matthew McConaughey said he opposes changing the Washington Redskins name and mascot, but thinks the pressure on the team to make the name change probably will succeed.
“It's not going to hurt me,” McConaughey said in a recent GQ interview. "It's just. . . I love the emblem. I dig it. It gives me a little fire and some oomph. Now that it's in the court of public opinion. It's going to change. I wish it wouldn't, but it will.”
A small group of Native Americans have been pushing for the professional football team representing Washington, D.C. to change its name for years before the publ...

Some Christians have been slamming actor Nicolas Cage over his movie “Left Behind,” a remake of the movie based on the successful book series by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins. Some of the criticism has been severely harsh, as if some Christians have forgotten that God shows them grace. When did it become okay for Christians to spew hatred and forget about humility and love for others?
These self-proclaimed Christian critics who have been slamming Nicolas Cage and his movie on social media channels have seemingly lost sight of God’s purpose. It’s as if posting a judgmental rant on a web site is more important than a Hollywood actor experiencing the grace of God.
It doesn’t mean every Christian needs to...

Killing Jesus: The Best-Selling Book Comes to National Geographic Channel
By Rachal Marquez, Contributing Writer
In 2015, Bill O’Reilly’s book on the history surrounding the life and death of Jesus will be translated to a miniseries on National Geographic Channel. The show has slated a diverse cast, including Lebanese actor Haaz Sleiman as Jesus.
O’Reilly’s book focuses on the historical aspects of Jesus’ life and death, especially concerning the Roman Empire at the time, and the show will presumably do the same. While not a spiritually-focused series, it will be presenting the contrast of the tumultuous world where Jesus preached a message of love and forgiveness.
In a statement, the National Geographic Channel said, ...

What the Snapchat hack reveals about online privacy and a culture adrift
by Daniel Weiss
“Think about this: A small flame can set a whole forest on fire. The tongue is a small flame of fire, a world of evil at work in us. It contaminates our entire lives. Because of it, the circle of life is set on fire. The tongue itself is set on fire by the flames of hell.”
James 3:5b-6 (CEB)
Last week we learned of yet another Internet hacking scheme in which supposedly private photos were stolen and shared online. The first round of leaked photos invaded the privacy of well-known Hollywood stars and other celebrities. This time, the innocence of average folks—including many children—was violated.

What’s Your Test for Truth?
By Dr. Tom Snyder, Editor
What’s your test for truth? How do you personally determine whether your beliefs are true, false, just, and unbiased?
Every reasonable person starts with the basic assumption that knowledge is possible. To say or believe that knowledge is not possible is self-contradictory because the person assumes that at least that knowledge is possible.
The two charts below answer the question: How can I know whether the knowledge I have is true? They provide an introduction to critical thinking for teenagers and adults. As such, they attempt to create a more intelligent, thoughtful citizenry by helping people use rational arguments that observe the basic laws of logic and objectively w...
