Hollywood “wins” again, this time even beating out Charles Darwin.
Coral Ridge Ministries surveyed Christians and found that 89% believe that Hollywood is “very dangerous to the nation’s spiritual well-being.” And Charles Darwin? He comes in a close second at only 85%.
As MOVIEGUIDE® has often found, those two often team up! Continue to pray for the impact MOVIEGUIDE® can have in this culture war.
If you saw the EXPELLED movie, then you heard a 15-second clip of the John Lennon song “Imagine” and criticism by Ben Stein of the meaning of the lyrics.
Lennon widow Yoko Ono recently sued the producers and film distributors claiming that they had no right to use the song, though the defendants stood on the fair use doctrine of the copyright law. No one asked the former Beatles backup singer that if there would have been a lawsuit had the movie praised the song or had not been about the truth of intelligent design. But no matter, the U.S. District Court recently blocked the lawsuit, citing “fair use.”
We all know and love the comic strip, FAMILY CIRCUS.
What you may not know is that artist Bill Keane attributes it all to his wife Thelma, the “mommy character” portrayed in the strip. Thelma recently passed away at age 82. The strip is characterized by gentle humor and portraying a loving family that attends church.
Bill, now 85 years old, has passed most of the daily work to his son Jeff to complete. Bill’s other son, Glen, is a Disney animator known for animating such characters as ARIEL, THE BEAST, ALADDIN, and TARZAN.
MOVIEGUIDE® joins the Keane family in celebrating the life of Thelma Keane, the human inspiration for such a family-friendly comic strip.
Associated Press reports that members of Russia’s Communist party are really upset with INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL, claiming that it’s portrayal of Communists during the Cold War “undermines Communist ideology” and that the movie “distorts history.”
Let’s take these charges one at a time. As far as undermining Communist ideology, aren’t we talking about the failed Soviet system? It seems like the history of Russia in the 20th Century undermines Communist ideology as a viable economic and governmental system much more than any Harrison Ford movie could ever do.
As to distorting history, we’ll agree that the KGB probably didn’t try to find a crystal skull before a fedora wearing archaeologist could ...
The Barna Group has released info on the world of blogging.
While 23% of American computer users are on a social network (like Facebook or MySpace), only 10% have a blog and only 14% post on blogs. The research states that blogs are most common with single adults, Northeast residents, homosexuals, those not registered to vote, atheists, and agnostics.
Since 1995, the number of available TV channels that come into your home has increased from 41 to 119. This is mostly due to the exponential growth of channels available via cable.
But how many of those 119 channels are you actually watching these days?
According to Nielsen Media, you’re watching about 16. That’s right, 87% of the channels simply aren’t being watched. Apparently, many viewers, especially younger ones, are drifting toward the Internet. Stay tuned to see how all this will develop in the coming years.
As attacks continue on the Bible (even within many churches and denominations that have abandoned the moral and theological principles on which Christianity is based), it’s important for everyone to realize that the Bible is a unique set of historically reliable documents that reveal God’s salvation plan for humankind – Jesus Christ!
Even the 3,500-year-old books of Moses in the Hebrew Scriptures, the five books of the Torah, reveal Jesus Christ. For example, Gen. 3:15 predicts the virgin birth of the Messiah, or the Christ, the crucifixion of the Messiah (also known as “The Passion of the Christ”), the Resurrection of the Christ, and the defeat of the Serpent of Sin that Jesus Christ brings to all people everywhere.
As Jesus Chri...
“Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwell in him, and he in God.”
