Disney Star Returns to Church Because of LITTLE BOY Movie

By Paul Warner, Contributing Writer

Thanks to the filmmakers of the new movie LITTLE BOY about faith, one of the movie’s actors, former Disney Channel actor David Henrie, has returned to the church after years living as an agnostic.

Henrie, who plays the role of London Busbee, the brother of “Little Boy” Pepper Flynt Busbee, said at a recent screening of the movie that his producers, including Eduardo Verastegui, helped him return to his faith.

“They were instrumental in changing my life, helping me to find the greater good and awaken the little boy in my heart, and led me back to my faith, led me back to my beliefs, and it has completely changed my life,” Henrie said at the movie’s Feb. 26 premiere, according to a report from BreatheCast.com.

Set to open Friday, March 24, the movie tells the story of Pepper Busbee, who admires his father, but faces a crisis when his father joins the war effort during World War II. He believes he can wish his father home after being asks to participate in a staged magic act.

“When we were on set, there were people of all different beliefs,” Henrie explained. “I had no clue that there were Christians behind the movie. I will forever be grateful for LITTLE BOY because it was the film that saved my life.”

At the screening, Henrie said the movie brought him out of “a very agnostic place” and back into faith in Christ. When he first read the script, Henrie said he sat in a coffee house and wept, according to BreatheCast.com. Henrie said he then called his agent to say, “This is the best script I ever read. Please get me in this.”

Henrie, who starred in the comedy “Wizards of Waverly Place” on the Disney Channel, also noted the difficulty in adjusting from comedy to drama.

“The emotion was a lot, and I wasn’t used to that,” Henrie said. “Angry and emotional all the time was tough, but you learn to laugh at it.”

LITTLE BOY opens Friday, April 24. You can read MOVIEGUIDE®’s review of the movie here.
