LES MISÉRABLES Takes Home The Epiphany Prize

LES MIS Takes $100,0000 Epiphany Prize; Most Inspiring Movie of 2012

LES MISÉRABLES starring Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, and Anne Hathaway took home the $100,000 Epiphany Prize for Most Inspiring Movie of 2012 at the 21st Annual Movieguide® Faith & Values Awards Friday night.

The Game Show Network’s THE AMERICAN BIBLE CHALLENGE starring Jeff Foxworthy won the $100,000 Epiphany Prize for Most Inspiring TV Program of 2012.

Supported by a grant from the John Templeton Foundation since 1996, the Epiphany Prozes are giving to the best, most entertaining, most inspiring, and spiritually uplifting movies and TV programs that “greatly increase man’s love or understanding of God.”

The Faith & Values Awards were held Friday night at the Universal Hilton Hotel in Universal City, Calif., right next to Universal Studios, the studio behind LES MISÉRABLES.

In accepting the award, President of Film Music and Publishing at Universal Pictures Mike Knobloch said the movie’s message “To love another person is to see the face of God” represents “the spirit of this award.”

He said the prize money will be donated to charity.

“What a great surprise,” Senior Vice President of Programming and Development David Schiff at the Game Show Network said as he handled the beautiful plaque for the Epiphanies, which are a rendition of Michelangelo’s famous painting of God creating Adam.

“THE AMERICAN BIBLE CHALLENGE is a game show where people of all ways of life come together,” he added. “Faith crosses all boundaries and all ways of life. Our teams play for charity. So far, they’ve raised $650,000. That’s a legacy that will go far beyond our show.”

Dr. Jack Templeton, president of the John Templeton Foundation and son of the late founder Sir John Templeton, who established the Epiphany Prizes with Movieguide®, was very pleased with this year’s success at the Awards Gala.

“Not only was it sold out,” Dr. Templeton said of the Gala, “but for the first time (s these programs go on long) not a single person left and there was the highest level of joy that I’ve felt at any one of these past events.”

Dr. Templeton announced the winners at the end of the Gala with Dr. Ted Baehr, founder and publisher of Movieguide®.
