The Perfect Christmas Gift

The Perfect Christmas Gift

Almost everyone delights in celebrating Christmas by giving gifts, especially to family members.

There is joy in giving and getting to see the reaction of the recipient. Most of us also love to give children lots of toys. Teenagers often want the latest electronic device.

What each of us should never forget, however, is the perfect Christmas gift – when God sent his Son that each and every one of us might be saved.

Consider what this perfect gift means to your family this Christmas morning. As you tear wrapping paper to see what each family member has been given, also please consider the other divine gifts from Jesus Christ’s sacrifice, such as the gifts of liberty and peace.

Too often, many people take these gifts for granted.

In other parts of the world, however, people are being killed, tortured and persecuted for their Christian faith. In fact, the history of the world is filled with unspeakable horrors. The fact that your family can gather in comfort, share Christmas gifts and enjoy a special Christmas meal together is of incredible value.

To be able to pass on to the next generation the opportunity to share the same kind of Christmas in years to come is actually more important than what toys or electronic gizmos you wrap and put under a Christmas tree this year.

Why is it millions of American families can have such celebrations?

When Jesus instructed His disciples to go into all the world and share the Gospel (the good news), He changed the world. Western Civilization, rooted in this good news, established cultures where the rule of law took precedence over the whim of kings.

Even better, the ordinary American knows he should “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Such basic Christian concepts of morality shape American culture. Looting and violence appalls the typical American. They expect shoppers and shopkeepers to be honest. They prefer polite, friendly greetings to spews of vulgarity.

We must not take this Christian culture for granted. It can be lost. There are neighborhoods in the United States today where you don’t want to live. They’re not safe. A high percentage of the children there don’t have a loving father present in their homes. Drugs, gangs and crime are prevalent. It is sad that too many children living in these neighborhoods may only receive their Christmas gifts from the Salvation Army rather than a relative, not to mention both parents.

As a society’s entertainment goes, so does its culture. It can move toward civility or depravity. Most of us can see this. Crass culture increases vulgarity, violence and even poverty.

When you support Movieguide®, you encourage Hollywood to make movies and television programs that promote civility and morality. You encourage Hollywood to make more of the kinds of movies that would be welcome as part of a wonderful family Christmas party: entertainment that delights, inspires and uplifts.

This Christmas, please don’t forget to celebrate the one who made your celebration possible: Jesus Christ. He is the true reason for the season. By honoring Him, you help pass on to future generations the opportunity to host joyous Christmas gatherings of their own.

So, please consider a Christmas gift this month to Movieguide® (www.movieguide.org), a gift that helps redeem the media and protect the culture you want to pass on to your children and grandchildren, and the children and grandchildren of your friends and neighbors.

God bless you. And, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!
