Summary:

Presenting a mediocre historical recreation of the events leading up to and following the fall of Sodom and Gomorrah, with live actors on simulated locations, it does offer some probing questions by biblical scholars and other commentators, sure to spur important discussion.

Review:

SODOM AND GOMORRAH: LEGEND OR REAL EVENT? is one of 13 videos in a series entitled ANCIENT SECRETS OF THE BIBLE COLLECTORS SERIES which explores difficult biblical events and phenomena and was originally part of four television specials that aired on the CBS television network. SODOM AND GOMORRAH: LEGEND OR REAL EVENT? recreates the angels visiting Abraham, their eventual visit to Lot and their telling of the cities' destruction. The story shows the townspeople coming to Lot's house and demanding that he release the angels so that they can have their way with them. Lot refuses and flees with his family, but Lot's wife turns to see the destruction. It is fatal to her, and she turns into a pillar of salt. Throughout the dramatization, experts debate the historicity of this destructive event ranging in claims that it never existed to claims that geological evidence is in full support of it.

While SODOM AND GOMORRAH: LEGEND OR REAL EVENT? claims to be for all ages in its soft examination of biblical issues, it probably will bore most young people with its debates and may stir ridicule from the adults with its cheap production values. Yet, for the probing, searching mind, these age-old questions will provide some basic information for deeper examination.
