FOOLS ON THE HILL

What You Need To Know:

FOOLS ON THE HILL is a droll, sometimes humorous, often heartbreaking expose of the collapse of our political systems. Concerned citizen and filmmaker Jerrol LeBaron sets out on a quest to get a law on the books on North Dakota that would require politicians to certify they have read the bills they are passing before they vote on them. The proposed law also would give time for the public to review the bills. In the process of his quixotic quest, Jerrol’s movie explores a wide range of experts, pundits, activists, and politicians who reveal the biggest problem in politics today – almost none of the politicians read the bills they’re examining.

It becomes clear watching this movie that the politicians in the United States are either fools, or something much worse. They have sold their souls. It’s also clear, however, that voters don’t know how to solve it. FOOLS ON THE HILL is an extremely important documentary that should be must viewing for everyone. This documentary comes close to being four stars, but it’s hard to follow a dramatic structure in a documentary. Even so, MOVIEGUIDE® highly commends FOOLS ON THE HILL.

More Detail:

FOOLS ON THE HILL is a droll, sometimes humorous, often heartbreaking expose of the collapse of our political systems.

Concerned citizen and filmmaker Jerrol LeBaron sets out on a quest to get a law on the books on North Dakota that would require politicians to certify they have read the bills they are presenting and passing before they vote on them. The proposed law also would give provide time for the public to review the final version of the bill so that citizens can see whose fingers are in the pie and take appropriate action before the bill gets passed.

In the process of his quixotic quest, Jerrol’s movie explores a wide range of experts, pundits, activists, and politicians who reveal the biggest problem in politics today – almost none of the politicians read the bills that they vote for. The excuses mount up in short video clips of the politicians: “There’s no time”; “We’ll read them after we pass them”; “The lobbyist told me this was a good bill”; and, so forth.

In the midst of all this, the negative impact of badly conceived, self-serving legislation is revealed. For instance, Congressman Murtha appropriated millions of dollars to build a state-of-the-art airport in a small Pennsylvania town in his district that only gets 18 flights a week. Another bill destroyed the new free enterprise system in the Seneca Indian Nation, even though the Native Americans there had just started to come out of economic depression by practicing capitalism.

Everybody, from the ACLU on the left to Rick D’Amato and Dean Cain on the right, bemoan a system where bills are passed with no thought to the content or consequences. Jerrol spends months in North Dakota trying to get enough signatures to pass this very non-partisan, common sense, two-point bill. One business owner says to him this is extremely important and they need to ask the Holy Spirit for help.

It becomes dramatically clear watching this movie that the politicians in the United States are either fools, or something much worse. They have sold their souls. It’s also clear, however, that voters don’t know how to solve it.

FOOLS ON THE HILL is an extremely important documentary that should be must viewing for everyone. The stupidity of allowing thousands of bills to be passed that are bankrupting the nation even though no one knows what’s really in them is incredible and evil. Complicated laws and high taxes are truly evil.

This documentary comes close to being four stars, but it’s hard to follow a dramatic structure in a documentary, especially one touching on so many important points as FOOLS ON THE HILL does. Even so, MOVIEGUIDE® highly commends FOOLS ON THE HILL. Our only suggestion is change the description on the back of the DVD box to: Jerrol is a prophet.
