REVIEW: THE LAUGHING PIZZA FAMILY BAND is an unequivocally wholesome “docu-concert” that’s fun and safe for viewers of all ages.
It follows the Schlosser family as they tour America while their band Laughing Pizza performs original music geared toward children and young people that the whole family can enjoy. This family band consists of Billy, Lisa and Emily Pizza. They are a father, mother and daughter, respectively, who are fulfilling their dreams by making music that entertains and brings families together. Viewers not only see them rock out on stage, but behind the scenes too, as they travel and rehearse together as a family and with other dancers or musicians, including a string trio from Julliard.
Interwoven between performance footage are interviews with the members of Laughing Pizza. In one interview, Billy and Lisa share that several years ago they were concerned that the music to which their young daughter was dancing was inappropriate for children. So as parents, skilled musicians, and vocalists, they committed to creating music and traveling the United States performing original kid-friendly pop music with a positive message.
Emily, who was born prematurely, has overcome medical issues, including deafness, early in life to become a musician playing several instruments. She is studious and enjoys meeting children while being homeschooled, traveling on tours, and performing with her parents.
The family also talks about its passion for fighting world hunger. They sing an original song at the Laughing Pizza concerts about the power of giving in honor of people in need. They give especially through an organization that develops and supports nutritious foods for the malnourished in places such as East Africa.
The cinematography in THE LAUGHING PIZZA FAMILY BAND is good and the composition is clear. The audio during some interview segments could be louder. Although there are no references to God or the Bible, this documentary has a strong moral worldview. The family believes and promotes that when you give to others you get so much more back in return. There’s absolutely no caution for any child because of its clean content. THE LAUGHING PIZZA FAMILY BAND is an entertaining DVD with lots of fun music.
