Mattel Theme Park Promises Fans ‘A Day of Thrills and Nostalgia’

Mattel will soon have its own theme park featuring Hot Wheels roller coasters and a Barbie Beach House. It’s set to open in 2024.

“Our attractions development team are simply redefining the entertainment channel by bringing Mattel’s powerhouse, evergreen brands to life like never before,” Mark Cornell, President of Epic Resort Destinations, said in a press release.

The nine-acre Mattel Adventure Park will be located within the VAI Resort in Glendale, Arizona, and its indoor/outdoor model will allow the park to be open all year round.

Hot Wheels fans will have the choice of two roller coaster rides—Hot Wheels Bone Shaker: The Ultimate Ride and Hot Wheels Twin Mill Racer. The latter will take riders on a double loop and two corkscrews. The Bone Shaker is for the more squeamish who still want an adrenaline rush as the coaster reaches a height of 84 feet.

“Construction is underway, and substantial progress has been made on what will give fans of all ages a day of thrills and nostalgia. We’re especially excited for families to experience the Hot Wheels Bone Shaker rollercoaster — a dream come true for any Hot Wheels fan,” Julie Freeland, senior director of global location-based entertainment at Mattel, said.

Barbie fans will get to visit the life-sized Barbie Beach House.

“The centerpiece of the Beach House will be the Barbie Dream Closet Experience. According to Mattel, it ‘uses hologram technology to bring Barbie to life before guests’ eyes,’” per Women’s Health.

Visitors looking for a bite to eat can visit the rooftop restaurant and bar where patrons can “dine awash in pink.”

For younger children, there will be the Thomas the Tank Engine-themed Thomas and Friends: World of Sodor area that will include seven rides and attractions.

The park will also include a 4,500-square-foot Masters of the Universe laser tag area, a mini golf course, and a climbing apparatus constructed of UNO cards. Cornell is confident that his “hand-picked, gifted team” has designed a theme park that will have something for everybody.

“Watching the excitement build as these mega attractions are being installed in Glendale has been tremendous, and we promise, you’ve never seen a park quite like this one,” he said.

Movieguide® previously reported on another new theme park coming from Universal:

Universal Parks and Resorts announced plans for a brand new, kid-friendly theme park outside the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas metropolis.

The park is specially designed for children aged 3 to 9, with enough rides to fill a two-day trip. The 97-acre location is just a quarter of the size of Universal’s Orlando park, but will include four or five different themed areas, as well as a 300-room hotel.

“The proposed park will be designed to be more intimate and engaging for younger audiences and will be sized for a regional audience,” a press release about the park reads. “It will be full of family-friendly attractions, interactive and playful shows, character meet and greets, unique merchandise and fun food and beverage venues. Although smaller in size, it will still carry the same quality as Universal’s other larger resort destinations.”
