Dennis Quaid Supports Homeless Veterans Through Housing Project
By Movieguide® Contributor
Actor Dennis Quaid attended Tunnels to Towers’ grand opening of 50 new homes for ‘catastrophically injured’ veterans and a “Veterans Village” to house homeless vets.
Constable Mark Herman of Harris County Constable Precinct 4 wrote, “Today, Constable Mark Herman’s Office attended the Tunnel to Towers Foundation grand opening of its Houston Veterans Village, and that it is delivering 50 mortgage-free homes to our nation’s catastrophically injured veterans, Gold Star families and Fallen First Responder families with prior military service.”
“The newly-renovated Veterans Village will house and service more than 100 veterans as part of the Foundation’s effort to eradicate veteran homelessness nationwide through the Homeless Veteran Program,” the post continued. “Over 3,000 veterans are receiving assistance in 2023. In attendance of the event was Commissioner Tom Ramsey and State Representative Tom Oliverson. Representing Constable Mark Herman was Captain Danny Garza.”
The constable included photos from the event, one of which featured Dennis Quaid speaking.
“This organization is fantastic,” Quaid said previously. “Ninety-five cents of every dollar goes right to where it should…these are people who put it all on the line, gave everything. The nation is obligated to support them.”
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is “committed to honoring the dignity of the American Service Member and that’s why we are committed to helping end homelessness amongst the Veteran Community and ensure no Veteran is left behind. Providing a safe and dignified home is an integral part of helping Veterans who are homeless reclaim their lives. Tunnel to Towers’ national program aims to eradicate homelessness by providing housing and services to Veterans who are homeless across America.”
In the Houston Veterans Village, “the Tunnel to Towers Foundation has fully converted a 161-room hotel in Houston, TX, which provides permanent and transitional housing to service hundreds of veterans in Houston and the surrounding areas. The property is equipped with a comprehensive service center on the first floor, offering veterans a litany of supportive services, provided by U.S. VETS. Phase II of our Houston Veterans Village will be complemented with 15-20 comfort homes, serving as permanent housing for senior citizen veterans,” the website shared.
Tunnel to Towers has projects in process plans to help homeless veterans in Bradenton, Florida; Riverside, California; Atlanta, Georgia; Phoenix, Arizona; Austin, Texas; Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; New York Metro/New Jersey; and West Los Angeles, California.
The foundation also aims to expand its homelessness program to other locations, including Detroit, Michigan; Denver, Colorado; San Francisco, California; Portland, Oregon; Charlotte, North Carolina; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Seattle, Washington; and Las Vegas, Nevada.
Movieguide® previously reported on country singer Carrie Underwood’s support of Tunnels to Towers:
Christian country music singer Carrie Underwood recently raised $420,000 for a cause she is passionate about—helping veterans have homes.
“I’m so proud of the fans that came out to the tour and making this donation possible,” Underwood said. “They have always shown up to support great organizations like Tunnel to Towers, making the world a better place while coming out to see us.”
Underwood donated $1 for every ticket purchased for her Denim & Rhinestones Tour. The funds went to the Tunnel Towers Foundation, an organization that provides mortgage-free homes to injured veterans and first responders with families.
