The Kendrick Brothers reshot their first movie, FLYWHEEL, and it’s releasing in theaters this October.
“Hey folks, we got good news,” Stephen Kendrick began a recent Instagram video.
“We have a new movie,” Alex Kendrick celebrated.
“We kinda have one and a half movies that are coming out,” Stephen noted. “We have the main new movie that is coming out and then we have a little bit of a remake on something. It’s pretty exciting, but we have an amazing story to tell you about some things God has done. Our minds have been blown, and you’re gonna get to enjoy the benefit of that.”
“So one of the best stories we’ve ever had [was] FLYWHEEL and God’s hand being on that because it’s a picture of the lordship of Jesus, the picture of a transformation that Christ can bring in a person’s life. The first half of the movie you see a man’s life who’s living for himself; he’s religious, but he’s not surrendered to the Lord. And to see how the Gospel transforms a person’s life, every area of their life…it ripples out from impacting his heart, his marriage, his children, his work, his reputation in the community; how Christ lifted up can bless everything,” Stephen added.
The brothers have been teasing the project for a while and landed on Oct. 16 for the theatrical release.
It’ll be quite a bit different from the original, though. Titled FLYWHEEL: IGNITION OF THE SOUL, the movie is a Brazilian remake of the 2003 movie. The brothers shot the movie in Brazil and in Portuguese to help the growing faith movement in the country.
Set in Rio de Janeiro, the movie follows “Noah Silva, a smooth-talking, used-car salesman whose ‘do whatever it takes’ approach to business and life begins to unravel at home and at work,” a synopsis reads. “After a series of wake-up calls, Noah is forced to confront the cost of his choices. He begins a difficult and deeply personal journey to restore his integrity while trying to win back the hearts of his wife and son.”
“The Brazilian filmmakers had all the talent and ingredients in the kitchen but wanted us to help them produce something inspirational in Brazil at the quality they saw in THE FORGE,” Alex previously said.
Stephen added, “What usually takes months of preparation happened in days. It was amazing. We did not know the language, local resources or culture, but saw God help us do more in less time. We found out that Brazilian pastors had been praying for this for five years. The movie is better shot, acted and scored than the original, and the storyline is just as powerful. I’m truly excited to see how audiences will respond to this new version in theaters this fall.”
Crossmap Blogs reported that the remake will be dubbed and subtitled in English for the North American market.
It is amazing how this project came together and how the Lord is using it to bless all of those involved.
