A new update for NCIS: NEW YORK connects it to the New York Knicks.
The series, which will come out this fall, stars LL Cool J, whose real name is James Todd Smith, as Sam Hanna and Scott Caan as his “roguish” partner. Cool J will also executive produce.
The promo features Madison Square Garden and the Statue of Liberty. It names the duo “New York’s Other Elite Team,” referring to Jalen Brunson’s squad which is expected to make NBA history, MEAWW reported.
There’s also a Knicks jersey and Ja Rule’s “New York” soundtrack in the promo.
ScreenRant reported that the show will film on soundstages in California and several on-location sites in New York.
Scott Gemmill, Byron Balasco and Jason Barrett also executive produce. THE PITT creator R. Scott Gemmill will write the script.
“It’s gonna be a lot of fun, a lot of sarcasm, a lot of banter, a lot of witty repartee, a lot of New York,” Cool J told Deadline. “It’s gonna be everything you need to get.”

Hanna is already a familiar face in NCIS, as he was a regular in NCIS: LOS ANGELES and NCIS: HAWA’I.
“They came to me and said that they were thinking about doing an NCIS: NEW YORK with Todd, and I said, I’m in. That’s all it takes,” Gemmill said.
The project is extra special for Cool J because he’s from New York.
“It’s as if his character is going back home, as if Todd himself is going back home,” Gemmill said. “New York is the burning center of the universe, so I was just excited and happy to be asked to be a part of it. And I jumped at the chance.”
Gemmill may be busy with THE PITT, too, but will try to be available for NCIS.
“Byron Balasco is going to be running the show, and I will help out as much as I can,” he said.
Like Cool J, Caan was also all in for his role.
“It was hard to say no,” he said.
The Hollywood Reporter says NCIS: NEW YORK is the eighth show in the NCIS franchise.
“When you’re home to the number one television franchise in the world, you must build on success and keep expanding the universe,” CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach said in April. “And quite frankly, our fans demand it.”
The show will air on Tuesday in the fall on CBS.
