Please Pray! Olivia Newton-John Diagnosed with Cancer for the Third Time
By Tess Farrand, Staff Writer
The GREASE alum told an Australian news program, “Sunday Night,” in late 2017, she found out she has cancer again. Newton-John was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992 and then again in 2013 where it spread to her shoulder. This time, the cancer was found because of a tumor in the star’s lower back at the base of her spine.
Despite her third diagnosis, Newton-John remains optimistic. She mentioned the support and care that spouse, John Easterling, provides comfort for her in this time, “My husband’s always there, and he’s always there to support me.” Even more, the singer has hope that she will again beat cancer, “I believe I will win over it, and that’s my goal.”
Newton-John’s efforts in breast cancer awareness and cancer screenings prompts much good in the world. The Cancer Research Center in Melbourne, Australia named their cancer center after her. Like actress/director Angelina Jolie and talk-show host Giuliana Rancic, Newton-John lends her voice to encourage the public to be aware of the signs for cancer. The four-time Grammy winner reflects on how to keep moving forward while battling the sickness, “Support your spirit and have people around you who are positive. Focus on doing things every day for yourself, whether it’s taking a walk, going to a movie, being creative or having a good laugh.”
Cancer runs in Newton-John’s family and sadly, her sister passed away in 2013 of brain cancer. In tribute to her, she performed an original song “Stone in My Pocket,” at the 25th Movieguide® Awards. Watch the full performance below and please join us in praying as the star continues treatment.
