PURGE Movies ‘Inspire’ Teenager To Murder Three Men During Crime Spree

Date:  June 4, 2016

The violent PURGE movies, which show American authorities allowing people to commit any violent crime they want, including mass murder, inspired a murderous four-day crime spree in Indiana last month, court documents reveal.

A 19-year-old man murdered three men, including a 44-year-old married father of two, as well as robbed a man at gunpoint and pulled a gun on a teenage girl to whom he’d been selling drugs.

Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry said at a press conference this week that the three murder victims “appeared to be 100 percent random.”

Curry announced 17 charges against the alleged perpetrator, which included armed robbery and intimidation. The alleged murderer could face the death penalty or life in prison without parole.

These kinds of copycat crimes are not unknown to MOVIEGUIDE®. There are hundreds if not thousands of examples of crimes as well as suicides instigated by depictions of violence in movies and TV programs.

Also, thousands of studies over the past 75 years have shown that depictions of sex and violence in the media can result in violent behavior, especially among children and teenagers.

“About 7 to 11 percent of children who watch violent entertainment will act out such violence in the real world,” MOVIEGUIDE® Publisher Dr. Ted Baehr noted.

MOVIEGUIDE®:  The Family Guide to Movies and Entertainment is dedicated to protecting children and grandchildren from toxic media like THE PURGE movies and violent television programs on broadcast and cable television outlets.
