Savannah Bananas outfielder RobertAnthony Cruz (also known as Coach RAC) revealed why he is so open and honest about his faith in Christ.
“It’s the only thing that has satisfied my soul – sincerely,” Coach RAC told Crosswalk Headline at the 2026 K-LOVE Fan Awards. “I have experienced hitting a home run in front of a ton of people, I’ve experienced a bunch of people wanting my autograph and all that – and the more that the spotlight is put on me, the more I realize it’s not meant to be on me.”
“And so myself and so many of my teammates have experienced the joys of doing life with Jesus, and nothing else compares to it,” the outfielder emphasized. “And so for me, I can’t help but be outspoken about it, because I love people, and I want them to experience that same peace and joy.”
Cruz won the Sports Impact award at the K-LOVE Fan Awards for the difference he continues to make on and off the field.

The athlete isn’t alone when it comes to his faith. A big portion of his team, as well as guys from other teams in the Banana Ball league, join together for a weekly Bible study.
“We meet intentionally every week,” Cruz told Crosswalk. “We have a Bible study. We’ve had that going now for almost three years. We get in the Word. We worked our way through Ephesians earlier this year. Now we’re going through Hebrews. We’re almost done with that. We intentionally meet every week, and we need that time together, because we’re playing on the road. We don’t have a local church community that we’re rooted in, because we’re always gone playing on the road – so having that time with each other is huge.”
“But I think that so many of my teammates whose lives have been transformed, and wanting to share their testimonies at our worship nights – all of that has been, I think, an outgrowth of us intentionally meeting together,” he continued.
His newest endeavor is the Sandlot Revival worship nights, where Coach RAC and others travel host worship events in the cities where the Bananas are playing.
“We want to start here in Savannah hosting worship nights and connecting people to their local churches,” Coach RAC explained in a video on social media last October. “But we also want to be open to move wherever the Spirit leads. Picture this as we are going to a new city, and we’re going to potentially be playing that weekend. We have a worship night. We connect with some local churches in the area. Maybe we host a baseball camp, I don’t know. Want to worship God together in community, because that is where we found true peace and fulfillment and joy.”
Whether he’s in the clubhouse or on the field, one thing is for certain: Coach RAC is going to make his faith known to those around him.
