This Fast & Furious Actor Just Blessed His Mother in the Sweetest Way

By Diana Tyler, Contributing Writer

With myriads of bad news permeating the media, it’s easy to forget that good things still happen every day. Tyrese Gibson’s mended relationship with his mother is one such glimmer of light.

The R&B singer-turned-actor (THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS) posted on Instagram last Wednesday night to share that he had bought a house for his mom, Priscilla. This may not seem like much, considering he’s a celebrity with presumably millions to spend on extravagant gifts, but there’s more to this generous gesture than meets the eye.

In one of the post’s captions, Tyrese wrote that his mother’s 27-year-long alcohol addiction “killed” his childhood. October 11th marked 11 years of her sobriety, and the new house was Gibson’s way of celebrating her, and “God’s favor that he has extended over her life.”

“This is the reason why we work as hard as we do,” said Gibson in one of the Instagram videos. “It’s not about what’s in your bank account. It’s about what you’re doing to make a difference in other people’s lives from the heart.”

In an emotional 60-second video, Gibson prayed over the house:

“Father God, I want you to step in and bless this house. I want you to know that in my heart of hearts I came to you, vulnerable and humble, asking you to remove all memories and levels of resentment and anger that I was carrying for 27 years of alcohol abuse from my mother…because of you, my mother has been sober for 11 years as of today…and I just want to say thank you, Father.”

Gibson credits his mom for introducing him to the Lord, “showing [him] what love is,” and for being the only person to ever break his heart.

Gibson continued, “So blessed to know that this same JESUS brought me my mother back.”

This world is full of broken hearts, of addiction-bound parents, abused and neglected children, and a million other woes that threaten to wreck our families and crush our joy.

John 10:10 says that Satan’s mission is to “steal, kill, and destroy,” and it only makes sense that he would concentrate so much time and effort on attacking the family unit. If he can destroy the family, he can destroy its ministerial design, one intended to exemplify some of the most precious truths of who God is and what He is accomplishing in this world. By shattering the Lord’s universal model for unconditional love, provision, selflessness, and faithfulness, Satan can impede the proliferation of the gospel and weaken the Church’s witness.

Gibson’s testimony of grace and forgiveness is a tremendous victory over Satan’s assault on his family. It displays God’s restorative, miracle-working power in a seemingly hopeless situation. It would be easy, even understandable, for Gibson to have remained embittered and hurt by his mother. Instead, however, he chose to let God’s light shine into the darkness and repair his broken heart.

Yes, there are still miracles amid the catastrophes of our time. We only need open our hands to receive them, and our mouths to give thanks when they come.

“Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” – Colossians 3:13, NIV
