More Detail:

YOSSI & JAGGER is an Israeli movie about two homosexual soldiers and their platoon on a remote army base on the border with Lebanon. Yossi is the commander of the platoon. On a contrived reconnaissance mission, he manages to find some quiet time and implied sex with his secret homosexual lover, Lior, whom everyone has nicknamed Jagger (after Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones) because of Lior’s good looks and penchant for singing rock and roll tunes.

When they return from their tryst, Yossi finds out that the troop commander has come to visit the base, along with two pretty female soldiers who man the radios at the nearby border town. After the troop commander, who’s married, fornicates with one of the girls in Jagger’s room, he informs Yossi that the army has ordered an ambush that evening. Yossi thinks the mission is too soon after the last one, which was hard on his men, but his protests go for naught.

The rest of the movie shows the platoon eating lunch with the troop commander, relaxing, and preparing for the mission. Through all this, viewers learn that the other girl has a crush on Jagger, but that another soldier has a crush on her. No one but Yossi knows that Jagger and he are homosexual, but the other soldier soon finds out. Eventually, the girls and the troop commander return to the border town, and Yossi’s platoon moves out on their mission.

YOSSI & JAGGER’s story of wartime sex and violence is not as explicit as it sounds, but it contains some very strong foul language. There are also funny and dramatic moments that have nothing to do with the movie’s sexual content and brief wartime violence. The movie shows that the soldiers are intent on living their lives because they know that the next mission may be their last. At one point, for example, the platoon cook takes pleasure in preparing an imitation sushi dish for the troop commander, which the commander wolfs down ravenously. All of these things lead to a dramatic, bittersweet ending that is quite well done.

Even so, however, the movie’s foul language, pro-homosexual content, and non-Christian worldview add up to an unacceptable, abhorrent experience. YOSSI & JAGGER is not heavy handed or preachy, but it does have a politically correct agenda. The Bible clearly condemns homosexual behavior and adultery as abhorrent, but you wouldn’t learn that truth from watching this movie.
