"Just Plain Dumb"
What You Need To Know:
The BLAIR WITCH movies have some of the dumbest endings in horror movie history. The endings never go anywhere, and the evil witch is never revealed. The new BLAIR WITCH movie, the second sequel, has just about the dumbest ending yet. Of course, the evil witch succeeds in making everyone mysteriously disappear, except for one character who goes violently mad and is stabbed to death. BLAIR WITCH has a lot of foul language, but much less than the original.
(OOO, B, LLL, VVV, AA, DD, M) Very strong occult worldview where a powerful, revenge-minded, super-powerful witch makes people visiting her woods and decrepit house disappear, plus some light moral elements in that a man is trying to find what happened to his sister, who disappeared while making a documentary in some haunted Maryland woods; at least 61 obscenities (more than half are “f” words), four strong profanities and 12 light profanities, plus a vulgar joke is made; very strong brief violence and lots of strong scary violence includes young woman gets a deep bloody cut on bottom of her foot, and it looks worse after only a day, same woman has a bloody and oozing cut on her calf from which she pulls a long thorny looking piece of wood, character gets stabbed in neck after having locked up another character in a pit, loud scary cracking sounds in the woods at night (including when missing people suddenly appear next to people wondering what happened to them or looking for them), tree seems to fall on another character, and character eventually disappears, demonic figure of some kind chases characters, but viewers are never shown a good look at it (apparently it’s the Blair Witch transformed into something, but what is never revealed), stupid occult scares about a witch character that never fully appears but appears to have the ability to create perpetual night in her woods and make people disappear, character falls after climbing tree to retrieve drone at night, and then character’s body is pulled off screen, etc.; no sex; no nudity; alcohol use and man with hangover says he doesn’t feel bad about getting drunk the night before at a bar; no smoking, but a joke about using bath salts to get high; and, revenge and people pull a prank.
BLAIR WITCH, the second sequel to THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, shows what happens when the brother of the girl who disappeared from the first movie goes searching for the truth about his sister’s disappearance in the woods where the Blair Witch lurks. BLAIR WITCH has just about the dumbest ending of all the dumb endings in this series, and, as usual the evil witch wins and just makes people disappear after scaring the heck out of them.
The movie opens with Lisa, a film student, making a documentary about James. Lisa’s focusing on his search for his long lost sister, Heather, who disappeared years ago while making a documentary about the Blair Witch legend. They get help from James’ friend, Peter, and his girlfriend, Ashley. A local couple, Lane and Talia, takes them to the spot where they recently found some new footage left in the woods by Heather and her friends. They all get trapped in the woods, which are somehow turned into perpetual night so that the Blair Witch can stalk her newest victims.
The BLAIR WITCH movies have some of the dumbest endings in horror movie history. The endings never go anywhere, and the evil witch is never really revealed. That’s a big reason the first sequel barely made $26 million, only one-fifth of what the first movie made ($140.5 million). The new BLAIR WITCH movie, the second sequel, has just about the dumbest ending yet. It’s also often annoying and even hard to follow at times. Again, viewers never get a good look at the witch, and the people just disappear, leaving their equipment behind. MOVIEGUIDE® lists BLAIR WITCH under “Just Plain Dumb.” Happily, though, the movie has a lot fewer obscenities than the first movie. Also, like the first movie, but unlike the second, there’s no crude sexual content.
