FINDING AMANDA

What You Need To Know:

FINDING AMANDA is a black comedy starring Matthew Broderick as Taylor Peters, a television writer and producer in Hollywood recovering from drug and alcohol addiction. Although he has kicked those habits, he is still addicted to gambling on horses. He hides his addiction from his long-suffering wife, Lorraine, but she finds out and goes to live with her sister. Taylor follows Lorraine and learns that the sister’s 20-year-old daughter, Amanda, has become a prostitute and possible drug addict in Las Vegas. Taylor comes up with a crazy plan. To win back his wife, he will find Amanda and convince her she needs to go with him to a rehabilitation center in Malibu. Of course, while in Vegas, all of Taylor’s own addictions re-emerge.

FINDING AMANDA is really about Taylor finding himself and facing his own problems and addictions. Regrettably, it is filled with plenty of strong obscene language, sexual references, drug references, and alcohol abuse. Thus, the viewer is subjected to a hedonistic display of pagan immorality. Also, the rehab clinics in the story seem to be secular ones that aren’t rooted in the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

More Detail:

FINDING AMANDA is a black comedy about addiction. As such, it plays sometimes like a morality tale, but a morality tale with a lot of frank, often crude references and excessive foul language.

The movie stars Matthew Broderick as Taylor Peters, a television writer and producer in Hollywood recovering from drug and alcohol addiction. Although he has kicked his substance abuse habit, he has one addiction left: gambling on horses at the racetrack. He hides his addiction from his long-suffering wife, Lorraine, but she finds out Taylor hasn’t really kicked his gambling habit and goes to live with her sister.

Taylor follows Lorraine to her sister’s house. While there, he learns that the sister’s 20-year-old daughter, Amanda, has become a prostitute in Las Vegas. She may even be doing it for drug money.

Taylor comes up with a crazy plan. To win back his wife, he will go to Las Vegas, find Amanda, and convince her she needs to go with him for a scheduled appointment to a rehabilitation center in Malibu. Of course, while in Vegas, all of Taylor’s addictions come to the fore, especially when he meets up with Amanda. In the process, however, Taylor discovers that he needs even more help than his niece.

FINDING AMANDA is really a story about Taylor finding himself and facing his own personal problems and addictions, which won’t go away. Regrettably, the story is filled with plenty of strong obscene language, sexual references, drug references, and alcohol abuse. Thus, before Taylor finally realizes he really needs more professional help, the viewer is subjected to a hedonistic display of pagan immorality. Also, the rehab clinics in the story seem to be secular ones with no religious or spiritual foundation, much less one rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
