More Detail:

GOD IS GREAT AND I’M NOT is a French romantic comedy about a 20-year-old model who tries to convert to Judaism when she enters an on-again, off-again relationship with a young Jewish veterinarian. Audrey Tautou of last year’s French hit AMELIE plays the young model, Michele, with Edouard Baer as the veterinarian, Francois. When they first meet, Michele is practicing her family’s Roman Catholic faith. When they meet for a second time, Michele has become a Buddhist. Michele becomes interested in Judaism when she learns that Francois is Jewish, but Francois couldn’t care less. When it appears that this time Michele is serious, he starts taking a conversion class with her, but things still don’t go well for them.

This movie is a very choppy, superficial comedy about romance, sex, family, marriage, and religion. As you might expect from a French filmmaker, the ultimate lesson of this inconsequential movie is that love is more important than religion or theology. Thus, despite somewhat positive references to Jesus Christ and especially to God and the Hebrew Scriptures, GOD IS GREAT AND I’M NOT adopts a Romantic worldview with humanist tones. It also contains some strong foul language and sexual situations.

Although the movie opened late last year in New York City, it is making the rounds throughout the rest of the United States this year.
