THE ADVENTURES OF OCIEE NASH

Watch:

What You Need To Know:

Set in 1898, THE ADVENTURES OF OCIEE NASH is a beautifully filmed story of a little girl who triumphs in the face of adversity. Nine-year-old Ociee lives on a Mississippi farm with her father and two brothers. One day she discovers a gypsy down by the creek. Initially afraid, she makes friends with him after wise counsel from her father. Her father, played wonderfully by Keith Carradine, is afraid he cannot bring up Ociee properly since his wife died. He sends her to live with her aunt in Asheville, North Carolina, a bustling city. At first, she is a fish out of water, but, through good values and a great heart, she triumphs over adversity.

THE ADVENTURES OF OCIEE NASH is a low-budget feature, but transcends its budget through beautiful cinematography and careful acting. The dialogue is weak at times, and the script meanders. With a little attention to the script, the movie would have been more exciting. As it is, it is a valiant effort that screens well for children. Ociee Nash is a great role model for children and adults. Winsome and endearing, this is a worthwhile entertainment that should entertain the whole family.

More Detail:

Set in 1898, THE ADVENTURES OF OCIEE NASH is a beautifully filmed story of a little girl who triumphs in the face of adversity.

Nine-year-old Ociee lives on a Mississippi farm with her father and two brothers. She likes nothing better than to romp through the countryside with her brother Ben and her dog “Woofer.” One day, she discovers a gypsy down by the creek. Initially afraid of him, she makes friends with him after her father gives her some wise counsel.

Her father, played wonderfully by Keith Carradine, decides, however, that the rough and tumble world of their rural farm is not the place for Ociee to be growing up, especially since his wife died. He sends her off to live with her Aunt Mamie in Asheville, N.C., a bustling city where Aunt Mamie can teach Ociee to be a “young lady.” At first, Ociee is a fish out of water, but, through good values and a great heart, she triumphs over adversity.

THE ADVENTURES OF OCIEE NASH is a low-budget feature, but it transcends its budget through beautiful cinematography and generally careful acting. The dialogue, however, is weak at times, and the script meanders. With a little attention to the script, the movie would have been much more exciting. As it is, it is a valiant and commendable effort. It screens well for children.

Ociee Nash is a great role model for children and adults. Winsome and endearing, this is a worthwhile entertainment that should entertain the whole family.
