What You Need To Know:

OLYMPIC DREAMS opens with Penelope, a cross country skier for team USA, experiencing this event all alone, so she is sad, lonely and seems lost. Ezra is a volunteer dentist who has loved the Olympics his whole life. He’s just went through a break-up with his fiancée and is not sure if they are together or not. They both want to overcome their loneliness by finding love, but it doesn’t work.

The low-budget movie had decent acting, but a weak plot. There isn’t much action, and the script is weak, so the viewers are not captivated by the movie. For filming at the real Olympics, the viewer would’ve expected something more exciting and real. The story was pretty far-fetched. OLYMPIC DREAMS has a strong romantic worldview as both characters are searching for something that won’t bring them true happiness or comfort. It does have some moral/biblical characteristics as one character extolls kindness and cares for others. Although OLYMPICS DREAMS is somewhat engaging with a few good qualities, Movieguide® advises strong caution for some worldview concerns and as well as a politically correct character.

More Detail:

OLYMPIC DREAMS opens with Penelope, a cross country skier for team USA, experiencing this event all alone, so she is sad, lonely and seems lost. Next, the audience meets Ezra, a volunteer dentist who has loved the Olympics his whole life. He’s just went through a break-up with his fiancée and is not sure if they are together or not.

The two meet the morning of Penelope’s race. Ezra sits down with her while she’s eating, and she doesn’t really want to give him the time of day. He catches her vibe and just gives her some floss and wishes her good luck on her race before leaving. However, throughout the rest of his day he asks all his patients if they know how she did, as she left an impression on him.

Penelope doesn’t do as well as she thought she would in her event and is hurt that she isn’t on the podium. Penelope and Ezra run into each other again the next day when they are both at a giftshop. Ezra decides to try and talk to her again, and this time the two form an unlikely friendship.

The two start spending all of their free-time together exploring the Olympic Village and even some of Korea. While exploring, the pair start develop feelings for one another. When Penelope decides to act on her feelings and tries to kiss Ezra, he doesn’t reciprocate, so they stop talking and hanging out.

Ezra now spends his time alone, while Penelope finds a friend in a man named Gus, who is also a member of the team. She tries to direct all her feelings towards him, but soon finds out he’s homosexual. They instead form a friendship and run into Ezra one evening.

A few days later, Ezra decides to talk to Penelope about what happened the night she tried to kiss him. Penelope is frustrated with him because she confronts him on how he is scared of his dreams and of being confident in himself. The audience can tell there is still an undeniable chemistry between the two. Will they work out their differences before the games are over and they have to leave? Or, will this just be a fling that will end with the games?
