It’s been quite the year for many people, with its ups and downs. Some of us have had incredible hardships. Others have seen amazing blessings and miracles. No matter how the year has gone for you however, there are always things to be thankful to God for, and that’s why Thanksgiving Day is such an important holiday, because it puts us into a posture of gratefulness. Spanning the years 1914 through the late 1960s, AVALON is a powerful, pro-family saga about the Krachinsky family, Jewish immigrants who move to the mythically symbolic Avalon section of Baltimore. AVALON is an extremely enlightening, entertaining movie celebrating American traditions that are losing their meaning over time. It has some light foul language, so caution is advised for older children.
LITTLE WOMEN (2019) is the most gorgeous, historically accurate big screen version of the famous book by Louisa May Alcott that’s been made several times in movies and for television. Better yet, LITTLE WOMEN has no foul language, no sex, no nudity, no violence but is a delightful character study with very strong Christian content about a family dealing with real issues during the Civil War. Along with the 2019 version, there were productions of LITTLE WOMEN released in 1994, 2018 and 2018 (PBS).
DRIVING MISS DAISY is a great character study with strong Christian values about a wealthy Jewish matron who’s befriended by her black chauffeur, a committed Christian full of wisdom. Beautifully acted by Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman and containing only two exclamatory curses, DRIVING MISS DAISY will not only fill you with joy and love, but also encourage you to follow Jesus Christ more closely.
A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD is a wonderful movie starring Tom Hanks as the famous children’s television host, Fred Rogers, whose simple Christian wisdom helps a troubled reporter become a better man and reconcile with his estranged father. A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD is a delightful, winsome, powerful, heartrending movie that exalts forgiveness, kindness, grace, and love.
SAINTS & STRANGERS is an exciting, faith-filled, jeopardy-filled two part TV miniseries from National Geographic. It tells the story of the Mayflower and the settling of Plymouth by the Pilgrims, the soldiers, the fortune hunters, and the sailors who arrived in Massachusetts in 1620 on Nov. 11. JOHN ADAMS is the acclaimed HBO TV miniseries on one of America’s most important founding fathers, and the second president of the United States, who led a glorious, mostly positive life of great influence. The acting, writing and direction are superb, and this miniseries is rich in political, philosophic and spiritual dialogue that recognizes Christian faith in every critical moment.
