The liberal and left-wing reaction against Fox News political commentator Brit Hume’s comments on Fox News Sunday recently telling Tiger Woods to turn his life around by leaving Buddhism and becoming a Christian has been startling.
One MSNBC host said Hume’s comments “diminished” Christianity and that his “Christian friends” (conveniently nameless, of course) agreed with him.
Then, bloggers on radical left-wing websites like The Huffington Post began insulting Brit Hume for daring publicly to mention Christianity in a positive light.
Finally, comic lightweight Jon Stewart and one of his goofy commentators on “The Daily Show” on Comedy Central weighed in by mocking Brit Hume and his ...

Americans are obsessed with reality, or perhaps, I should say "reality" as portrayed by the TV networks. Ratings indicate that we are glued to our screens watching people "survive" on islands and sing their way to becoming "idols".
This love affair with "reality" has even begun to color what we see as "news". We now have multi-day coverage of "Balloon Boys" and couples who crash White House parties. Apparently, two wars, health care debates, and economic problems are not real enough for the news directors!
Of course, the real irony of it all is that none of it is really "reality". The producers are not hiding behind bushes in a jungle, like Jane Goodall, secretly filming whatever the chimps naturally are doing. Rather, th...

Brit Hume, former Fox News Anchor, now a commentator, touched off a firestorm when he made some compassionate remarks about Tiger Woods on a Sunday Fox show:
“Tiger Woods will recover as a golfer. Whether he can recover as a person I think is a very open question. It is a tragic situation. He has lost his family. It is not clear to me whether he will have a relationship with his children.
“The Tiger Woods who emerges once his news value dies out of this scandal – the extent to which he can recover seems to me to depend upon his faith. He has said he is a Buddhist. I don’t think that faith offers the kind of forgiveness and redemption that is offered by the Christian faith.
“So my message to Tiger is, `T...

The doors of the Philadelphia Biblical University in Langhorne, Pennsylvania burst open a few weeks early this year as a windfall of over 280 aspiring Christian writers filled the hallowed halls. Many had a suitcase in one hand and a manuscript in the other. All were thirsty for different dispositions of knowledge, seeking weaponry for their entrance onto the battlefield for a greater Christian presence within today's entertainment communications media.
Under the direction of founder Marlene Bagnull, Litt.D., the Greater Philadelphia Christian Writers Conference began in 1983 as a one day event. Bagnull, along with a staff of 61 instructors, welcomed the multitude of enthusiastic beginner, intermediate, and advanced wo...

REVIEW: THE COMPLETE INFIDEL'S GUIDE TO THE KORAN is great reading and must reading. New York Times bestselling author Robert Spencer carefully, thoroughly and insightfully exposes the malevolent nature of Islam and Mohammed. He proves Islam is not a religion of peace, as Christians and Jews would define it. The peace that the Muslims refer to only occurs with the complete world domination of Islam. Robert p...

REVIEW: While many people think of Hollywood as a spiritually dark place, many of the stunt men and women are people of faith and values. As our friend Bob Yerkes used to say when he was teaching Circus of the Stars and pushing someone off a platform and into the abyss he will ask if they knew Jesus. Many of the stunt men not only know Jesus, but also pray in the midst of extreme adversity.
That said, the book STUNT ADJUSTMENT is a wond...

Many years ago my ministry was enhanced by reading a book called Blessed to Be a Blessing by United Methodist pastor the Rev. James K. Wagner (1980, Nashville: The Upper Room). Although this book was specifically about having an intentional ministry of healing in one's church, I took it as a maxim for our work for Christ in all its fullness: we cannot be a blessing unless we were first blessed by God, AND once we're blessed by God we must be and take God's blessing to others.
Otherwise, what? Trying to minister in our own strength will lead nowhere. We'll burn out and we'll not bear fruit. At the Protestant Reformation Martin Luther, in his monumental hymn "A Mighty Fortress is Our God" ...
