Nearly 10 years after her murder, singer and THE VOICE alum Christina Grimmie’s family and friends are keeping her memory alive.

“We want Christina to be remembered for the person and artist she was, not just the tragedy,” Grimmie’s father, Albert, told US Weekly ahead of  Grimmie Fest, a three-day event in Christina’s honor.

In 2016, Grimmie and the band Before You Exit had just finished performing in Orlando, Florida, when all of a sudden shots were heard from inside the venue.

“There were guys loading and carrying music equipment out,” Danielle Hendrix told US Weekly last week, “so I figured it must have been a speaker or some equipment falling.”

But then Hendrix heard security guards yelling, “‘Run, run, there’s a shooter!’”

“At first I thought that can’t be right. This is a pop concert,” she said.

Shortly after, Hendrix found out Grimmie was fatally shot.

“I remember breaking down sobbing in my car,” she recalled.

Following her death, Grimmie’s family founded the Christina Grimmie Foundation, which is on a mission to “make sure families are not forgotten after shootings and give them immediate support.”

They held their first-ever Grimmie Fest last week, which was headlined by a band that Grimmie’s brother, Marcus, manages.

“We’re honoring her legacy and all the people she’s brought together,” Marcus told US Weekly, “and celebrating the impact she still has.”

On Wednesday, Marcus shared a heartfelt post on his social media about the 10-year anniversary of his sister’s death.

“Hard to believe you’ve been gone for 10 years. It’s still really hard but I’m so thankful for everyone I’ve met because of you and everyone you’ve connected who became friends and even family. Love you all and I’m grateful for everyone who makes these days a little easier,” he wrote.

A post from Grimmie’s Instagram account celebrated the success of Grimmie Fest.

“It’s hard to believe ten years have passed since we lost Christina. And yet here we are, still surrounded by so much love, still feeling her everywhere. We are humbled, every single day, by the way this community has carried her forward,” the post read.

“This past weekend, we celebrated her life with so many people who love her. Today, we celebrate again with the release of a short documentary honoring who she was and the light she brought to so many lives, a light she first shared with the world in 2009 when she uploaded her very first video to YouTube,” the post continued.

Continue to keep Grimmie’s family and friends in your prayers as they keep her legacy alive.
