Adult-film-star-turned-pastor Joshua Broome cautions people in relationships against the dangers of lust.
“You are training your heart to consume. And a heart trained to consume does not switch off at the bedroom door. It walks in with you,” he said of pornography in a recent Instagram post.
Broome continued, “If you have spent years training yourself to consume people, you do not get to flip a switch on your wedding day. You will project what you practiced. A screen taught your eyes to take, to rate, to use. So now the woman in your bed becomes one more thing to use.”
The former adult film star explained that the issue is not desire but “distorted desire” — “Desire that objectifies [your wife]. Desire that superimposes onto her what you learned in places that were never holy and never helpful, then asks her to perform it. That is not godly intimacy.”

Broome urged his followers to name their sexual sins and “ask God to show you where lust is hiding,” as well as confess to a trusted friend.
“This is not behavior modification,” he wrote. “You cannot just stop this. Your heart and mind need cleansing and redirecting. You die to the flesh, and you let the love of God draw you into His light. And His light does not only expose thought patterns that are ungodly. It transforms you (2 Corinthians 3:18). And when He does, you will finally see what sex was always for and it will be not only better but what He created it to be, which He calls very good.”
Broome has been open about his early career in pornographic movies. In a video for I Am Second, he shared that he initially moved to Hollywood to be an actor but got swept up in the adult movie industry.
“I didn’t know what else to do, so I said yes,” Broome said. “And that one film turned into six years and over a thousand films.”
He eventually found the strength to leave the industry behind and move home, where he met his now-wife. She invited him to attend church with her, and Broome developed a relationship with Christ.
“The way that Jesus has become very real in my life is that He gave me a new purpose, and it’s because of His love for me. It changed everything about me,” he said.
While appearing on the “Livin’ the Bream” podcast, Broome explained that “we all have this wounded heart that only Jesus could fix,” adding, “Peace is not attainable on its own, it’s found in Jesus.”
Broome’s recent comments are a reminder of the dangers of consuming pornography and the importance of approaching desire with a godly mindset.
