What You Need To Know:
THE LAST WHALE SINGER is beautifully animated and tells a wonderful story about family and finding your voice. However, the plot gets convoluted. THE LAST WHALE SINGER has many Christian, moral themes promoting strong family dynamics, fellowship and sacrifice. However, it mixes this with some pagan elements. For example, the sea creatures follow their own legends and myths and can have magical powers. There’s also a character that’s described as “not a him, or a her,” because they are “beyond that.” So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for children.

More Detail:
THE LAST WHALE SINGER is an animated fantasy (or fantasea) about the last in a long line of whales with magical singing abilities. After a tragic accident, he vows not to become a whale singer. However, when a monster threatens the ocean where he and his friends live, Vincent goes on a quest to save the sea and find his song.
Vincent is a young whale who lives a happy life with his parents, swimming in the sea and practicing for the day he becomes a “whale singer.” Whale singers’ voices have magic abilities, and Vincent is eager to figure out his own song. However, when his parents die in an accident, Vincent vows to give up on becoming a whale singer.
Fast-forward 10 years, and the ocean is in danger. A monster known as Leviathan has escaped the prison Vincent’s father created for him years before and is poisoning the ocean. Inspired by a legend, Vincent decides to go on a quest to find his parents and bring them back to save the day. Along the way, he meets new friends and discovers the power of his own song.
THE LAST WHALE SINGER is beautifully animated and tells a wonderful story about family and finding your voice. However, the plot gets a little convoluted at times, especially for a movie aimed at children.
THE LAST WHALE SINGER has a mixed worldview. While it contains many Christian, moral elements, such as strong family dynamics and sacrifice, it also contains some light pagan elements where the sea creatures in the movie adhere to legends and myths. There is also a character that’s described as “not a him or a her,” because they are “beyond that.” So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for children, especially younger ones.
