Multi-time Olympic gold medalist Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone isn’t just gearing up for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, but she’s also preparing for her first child.

“I didn’t anticipate how much your body changes. Some days you feel great and some days you sit on the couch. It’s not the time to push through. You need to back off and let your body do what it has to do,” McLaughlin-Levrone told Footwear News as she prepares to be a first-time mom.

“It’s becoming more real,” she added. “Every day that passes by I’m like, ‘This is really happening.’ We got the nursery done, put together the stroller, the car seat. It’s going to be a new adventure.”

The track star announced the news of her pregnancy on Instagram in January.

“Made a human with my favorite human,” McLaughlin-Levrone wrote on Instagram alongside snaps of her and her husband, Andre, with ultrasound photos. “Oh, how we have prayed for you…and the Lord has answered!! You are our greatest blessing and are already so loved. We are eagerly waiting to meet you! 🫶🏽🤍 Cool parents loading…”

Then, a few months later, the track star posted a video of Andre reacting to the news that he’s going to be a dad.

“Telling my husband I’m pregnant fresh off a flight at 6am,” she captioned the post.

Andre and Sydney have wanted to be parents ever since they first got together years ago. Now their dream is becoming reality.

“I mean, it’s something we had talked about for years and desired. Obviously, trying to figure out schedules and career and all those things,” the track and field star told Bodega Track. “It’s something we were super excited to be able to pursue. I found out — I knew for like a week before he found out. Afterward, he was like, ‘You knew for a week?’”

“I was like every day I just wanted to blurt it out, but I wanted to do something special,” she continued. “So I surprised him one day when he had flown into New York to meet me, and he was literally just stuck. It was the sweetest reaction ever.”

McLaughlin-Levrone is comfortable with where her career is at thus far, which is why she and Andre decided now was the time to try for a child.

“I’m grateful for where my career has taken me at this point. And I think that’s why we felt so comfortable taking this next [step] in stride,” she told Footwear News of her pregnancy. “For a lot of my life, track was the main focus. That has shifted to a different place. I’m just enjoying this season for what it is.”

We can’t wait for Sydney and Andrew to welcome their baby girl.
