AMERICAN IDOL Season 24 winner and mom of three Hannah Harper has some new music on her mind.
She’s working on a song dedicated to her husband, Devon Mendenhall.
“That has been in the works for so long, but it just feels like words aren’t enough, if that makes sense,” Harper told Parade. “I have, like, six verses, different tunes. None of them have been finished.”
She added that she and her husband are pretty exhausted, having just gotten out of the IDOL whirlwind, and she wants to make it a priority to finish the song, TV Insider reported.
“I know that it will. It’s just one of those that I feel like I can’t even begin to scratch the surface on a love song that is ours.” He “deserves a whole catalog of songs,” Harper added.
Having support from her husband during the competition meant a lot to her.

“Just the emotional weight at the end of each night…just being able to take it off and be like, ‘Here you go,’ and he would take it every single week,” Harper said. “That was probably the best…Most of the other contestants were carrying it until the end of the competition, and it was like a blanket that I got to take off each night.”
She’d rather work alone until she’s has people she can write consistently with.
“If I found a couple of people that I wrote with and wrote with them long term, I think I would really enjoy it rather than, ‘We’re going to put you with these people and then over here, and then over here,’” she explained. “It’s a relationship and it’s somewhat intimate, so I want to be able to maintain the sentimental establishment of the song and how it’s written.”
Her audition song, “String Cheese,” was about postpartum depression and motherhood, and she hopes to write more songs like that and about her experience on IDOL.
“I don’t know if I need to just hold on to those and do a full album one day, or like trickle them in throughout, but yeah, there’s so much to be said about the IDOL experience. But as I said, time hasn’t slowed down long enough for me to focus and even try to put it into words,” Harper said.
She recently shared a picture of herself inside “the sawmill studio.”
She said, “Getting to make music with people I love, in a place that means so much to me, and having a hand in EVERY detail of the process — that’s the dream. I can’t wait for y’all to hear what we’ve been working on.”
We can’t wait to see what’s next for Harper.
