Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Paul Gervase might be one of the tallest pitchers in the MLB at 6′ 10″, but he has an even bigger faith.
When asked about what he wants to be known for, he pointed to his faith in Christ.
“I always think of two things: one, what is Jesus going to say to you when you get to heaven? Is He going to just say, ‘Are you here?’ or is He going to say, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant?’ Right,” the pitcher told Jesus Over Baseball. “And then the other one was the last thing He told us before He left us, which was, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel.'”
“So I want to be known for the amount of people I impacted with the gospel,” Gervase emphasized. “Baseball is just a platform that we can use to reach as many people as possible.”
Gervase’s faith in the Lord sustained throughout his unconventional journey to the MLB.

The athlete began his college career in 2020 at Wake Tech Community College in Raleigh, NC.
There, he “worked 10.1 innings in eight appearances, recording 14 strikeouts,” the LSU Media team reported. After his 2020 season, the pitcher moved on to Pitt Community College in Winterville, NC, “where he had 14 appearances, 21.2 innings pitched and 35 strikeouts; he allowed just 11 hits and recorded a 1.66 ERA.”
In 2022, Gervase landed at Louisiana State University, where he “worked primarily as LSU’s closer, making 29 appearances and recording a 4-1 mark and a 1.85 ERA in 39 innings with 15 walks, 52 strikeouts and six saves.”
After the 2022 season ended at LSU, Gervase declared for the MLB Draft and was selected in the 12th round by the New York Mets. He began his professional career at the Triple-A level for the Mets before he was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays, where he made his MLB debut.
Then, in 2025, Gervase was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he continues to “count” his “blessings” and lean on Romans 12:2.
The Bible verse reads: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is — his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Gervase has used his unconventional journey through baseball not just as a professional career, but as a God-given platform to share the gospel and impact lives through his faith.
