Dennis Quaid was one of Hollywood’s most famous faces, but the actor decided to leave the city for Nashville.
“It used to be such a great town and the ’90s was nice. And then it’s been kind of going downhill, and I feel like people pay these taxes for no services is what it gets down to,” he told Fox News while attending CMA Fest. “And then fire [the 2025 wildfires that ravaged parts of Los Angeles] happens, and it kind of exposes all those things that go on that should be taken care of.”
Quaid continued, “So people are — people are angry and half angry, and they’re half kind of feel like giving up, to tell you the truth. I’m just one of thousands who have left, and I don’t know, I hope the town comes back. I really do. It used to be such a fantastic town. It was. It was a great community, too. And something’s happened. People need to be inspired there.”

Today, Quaid lives in Nashville with his wife Lauren Savoie, 33. In a 2023 interview with Variety, the PARENT TRAP actor elaborated on why he prefers the city to LA.
“Maybe it’s because I’m older,” he said. “But there doesn’t seem to be the sense of community in Hollywood that I felt in the ‘70s, even into the ‘80s. It’s always been about people in their cars, but today it’s even more so. People stay in their trailers, they’re on their phones. There’s not the same kind of communication there once was.”
He continued, “LA has been very good to me, and I have great friends. But it is hard to make friends. There is a lot of self-involvement. In Nashville, you know your neighbors.”
“The South has a way of keeping me grounded,” he told Garden & Gun in a 2023 interview. “I have always loved the tempo and how people really get to know their neighbors. I also like being around people who aren’t in show business.”
In a 2024 interview with Fox News, Quaid added, “I really just love it there, and it’s one of my favorite places I think I’ve lived. It’s such a collegial place to be. The people there, your neighbors, your fellow artists — it just feels like it’s going on there.”
Like many other members of the entertainment industry, Quaid has found happiness outside of Hollywood.
