I CAN ONLY IMAGINE 2 star Dennis Quaid opened up about God’s role in his marriage with Laura Savoie.
“God is in our relationship. That [had] never even occurred to me before,” Quaid told Us Weekly. “I thought, ‘Well, I have a relationship with God, so did she,’ but to have God be the third entity in the relationship is kind of a new idea. But that’s really the way it is.”

“Otherwise you would wind up making the other person — you look to the other person to solve your problems, and we’re not equipped to do that,” he explained. “There’s a lot of things that we have, the baggage coming in [to a relationship], and it’s stuff that you need an expert [to deal with] — and that would be God.”
Quaid and Savoie married in 2020.
In his newest film, I CAN ONLY IMAGINE 2, Quaid plays Arthur Millard, the abusive father of MercyMe’s lead singer Bart Millard.
The actor revealed how much that role challenged him and made him “uncomfortable.”
“The way [Bart’s] father was, no matter the era, even from back then, [was] very abusive, almost criminal,” Quaid said to Us Weekly. “And people who are like that, they were abused themselves as kids as well.”
But he’s grateful that the sequel shows the redemptive side of Bart and Arthur’s relationship.
“Rarely do I find that people can actually really fundamentally change,” Quaid explained. “It really takes a lot to do that. And I think that can only happen with God’s help.”

I CAN ONLY IMAGINE 2 is a sequel to the acclaimed 2018 movie about the Christian band Mercy Me and its first hit. Years later, the band’s lead singer, Bart Millard, is having trouble writing a follow-up hit song. His teenage son, Sam, has diabetes, and Bart has become increasingly concerned about Sam’s lack of focus on his health. Bart tends to become more angry than loving. So, he fears he’s acting more like his father before he brought his father to Christ. Bert’s wife, Shannon, encourages Bart to take Sam with him on the band’s tour. Will that repair their relationship? Can Bart find a great new song for the band?
