WHEN CALLS THE HEART’s Daniel Lissing stars in CHRISTMAS UNDER CONSTRUCTION, Hallmark’s first Christmas in July movie this year.
Jessica Lowndes, Michael Strickland and Adam Hurtig will also star. Lownes and Lissing have already worked together in Hallmark’s A DECEMBER BRIDE, Parade reported.
The logline for CHRISTMAS UNDER CONSTRUCTION reads, “While doing a Christmas renovation for a cozy New Hampshire cabin, Chelsea, the star of a hit reality show, Renovation Romance, finds an unexpected connection with the cabin’s owner, Cooper.”
The movie filmed in Lowndes’ native country, Canada, specifically Winnipeg and nearby areas. The screenplay was written by Robin Dunne, Julia Benson, and Peter Benson, Girls Gone Hallmark reported.
The movie came out on July 4 and is available to stream on Hallmark+.

Lissing, a native of Australia, is best known for his role as Constable Jack Thornton in WHEN CALLS THE HEART.
He previously said of his role on the show, “This is a Hallmark series and they really concentrate on the light of a character rather than the darkness within a human being. So I have a whole array of emotions, but, with Jack, I am able to tap into that side of myself — that really strong, moral side, caring for people — and I certainly have those traits in common with Jack.”
He found it interesting to play someone who has such a strong sense of right and wrong. But it was a challenge, too.
“I need to find things that aren’t written to bring that inner conflict into Jack’s existence so, as the audience, it’s more interesting to watch him struggle and overcome things. Those moments of him trying to do the right thing and having that strong moral compass, they mean more when he overcomes them,” he explained.
One of the best things about WHEN CALLS THE HEART is that it’s collaborative. The actor had freedom to give input and shape his character.
“By the third episode I called Hallmark and the writers, and we had a really good discussion about what Jack’s purpose is this season because it seemed like he really didn’t have an arc of his own. He seemed to be in everyone’s story… He didn’t have his own thing going on,” he said. “So we addressed that and, as this season goes on, I really like the storylines that we are coming up with.”
The next movie in Hallmark’s Christmas in July lineup is O LITTLE CHRISTMAS MARKET with Katherine Barrell and Stephen Huszar on July 11 at 8/7c. SNOWBOUND FOR THE HOLIDAYS comes out July 18 at 8/7c, and last but not least, LOVE UNDER THE MISTLETOE premieres on July 25 at 8/7c with Jen Lilley and Nick Bateman.
