We aren’t the only ones eager for another BACK TO THE FUTURE movie. Star Christopher Lloyd revealed he’d be back on board — with one condition.
“I would love to do Doc again, no question,” the actor told The Hollywood Reporter in a 2015 interview, referring to his iconic character, Doc Brown.
Lloyd acknowledged it would be “tough” and “a real challenge” to create another installment “that has the same passion and intensity and excitement as the other three. But it could be done, you never know.”
He also shared his condition for potentially returning to the franchise — “It’s hard to replace Marty. Michael J. Fox was so wonderful in the role.”
“I think regardless of the Parkinson’s, he’d probably jump on the role and he’d be great,” Lloyd continued. “I can’t see doing another sequel without him. I would certainly want Bob Zemeckis directing it, Bob Gale writing it and the other principals being involved.”
The actor added, “He’s just so great to see. He’s just so warm and smart and has such courage coping with the Parkinson’s. He’s indomitable. He’s just great to be around.”

Lloyd and Fox have enjoyed a strong friendship over the years. In an interview with Looper, Lloyd shared, “It’s a thrill whenever we get together.”
“He has just such a loving, wonderful sense of himself in his situation in time,” he continued. “Really, he just has a perspective, and a sense of humor about it, and a kind of joy. He loves being who is and being able to give it.”
During a 2023 appearance at New York Comic Con, Fox called his BACK TO THE FUTURE costar “a great guy.”
“On BACK TO THE FUTURE PART III we connected in a way we hadn’t on the other films,” Fox recalled. “I came to see how much he loved acting. I never got that before. To sit down and talk about acting and talk about Shakespeare and ‘King Lear’… This guy can play King Lear! People don’t expect that of him. He’s full of surprises.”
He continued, “He can tell a movie’s worth of story in two seconds and you get it. Us regular actors have to lay out hours and hours to get the information out. Chris is brilliant at it. His love of film and his love of being an actor… He’s not just a crazy guy, he’s an artist.”
Decades after BACK TO THE FUTURE premiered, Lloyd and Fox’s friendship is as strong as ever.
