If you want to watch THE CHOSEN Season 6, you’ve got to “get used to different,” the cast says.

“So, obviously we’ve heard this story before,” Andrew James Allen, who portrays Pontius Pilate, began in a YouTube video about THE CHOSEN Season 6.

“The crucifixion might be the most portrayed historical event,” director Dallas Jenkins added.

The story has been told for thousands of years. So THE CHOSEN had the challenge of making it feel different, making it feel real.

“As it always goes with THE CHOSEN, you have to get used to different,” said Allen.

George H. Xanthis (John) believes THE CHOSEN’s depiction feels different because everyone has spent so much time with the characters.

“Five seasons’ worth of character development,” Jenkins explained.

“We and our audience, I think, care about each of these people, even the perceived villains,” said Tyler Thompson, executive producer and co-writer. “…We want to include everyone.”

Allen believes at this point in the show everyone has empathy for the characters.

“It’s the depiction of humanity,” explained Amy Bailey, who plays Joanna. “There is a deep and honest and true portrayal of humans going through human things.”

“Obviously, Judas has always been considered the betrayer, or bad guy, he’s always the evil one. This show is humanizing Judas,” said Austin Reel Alleman, who plays Nathanial.

Luke Dimyan, who plays Judas, pointed out that even the pharisees have names and a past that the story tells.

The video closes out with a clip of Jesus: “Get used to different,” he said.

The new season will premiere with the first three episodes exclusively on Prime Video on Nov. 15, Amazon MGM Studios announced. A weekly episode will release through Dec. 6, and the season finale will release in theaters in the spring.

“Everyone knows the basics of this part of the story, but not everyone knows the ‘why’ of the crucifixion and the extraordinary events of these 24 hours,” said Jenkins. “We realized this not only deserved a season of television but a standalone full-length theatrical event as well. We wrote and filmed all of it with this in mind.”

Jonathan Roumie, who plays Jesus, said performing Jesus’ death and resurrection was an incredible experience.

“It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life — both professionally and personally as a human being,” he said.

“I spent a lot of time asking the Lord to show me what He wanted people to see and what He wanted them to experience and if it was at all possible for me to try to experience a fraction of a fraction of what He went through,” he added. “I was willing to offer myself in that way, and He gave me some really challenging experiences on set, physically and emotionally.”

The Teddy Bear Award®-winning show started as a small crowdfunded project. Now, eight years later, it has had nearly 280 million viewers worldwide.
