THE CHOSEN crew just shared a fun and emotional sneak peak of Season 6 production.

“It’s going to be dark,” teased CHOSEN insider Christopher Durban in a recent video that showed the set of Season 6.

“I was surprised by the fact that everyone still has the ability to be light in between takes,” said Alaa Safi, who plays Simon Z. “We’re not saving the world. We’re just making a show that involves very important things to portray,” he admits.

Elizabeth Tabish (Mary Magdalene) tries to still have fun between the heavy takes, but it’s a “bitter” experience to film Jesus’ death.

“Brutal is the word I think that comes to mind for how I would describe Season 6,” said Jonathan Roumie, who plays Jesus. “I think season 6 is asking more of me than any of the seasons have so far. It’s asking more of me physically, spiritually, emotionally.”

“I kind of do feel like in this first week it is kind of thrown into the deep end a little bit which is what season 6 feels like right at the start,” said George H. Xanthis, who plays John. “We’ve kind of just been shocked, I would say, and I think that fits the vibe of Season 6.”

Producer Chad Gunderson noted that the season feels somber.

Producer Chris Juen said, “You can just feel the subject matter daily. And it’s rough because we’re going to be sitting in this for another 60, 55 days.”

Even though the season is more serious than any of the previous ones, Liche Ariza, who plays Gedera, still feels like it’s an incredible opportunity to be on the cast.

“I don’t think anything can top this, to tell you the truth,” he said.

“I think we’re all sensing that this is nearing the end,” Tabish added. “So I think there’s already this sort of nostalgia for doing something that we’re in the middle of.”

“I mean, it’s more challenging and there’s more emotion. Obviously, it’s heavier, but we treat it the same way,” director Dallas Jenkins said. “We’re always looking for the truth, looking for the humanity, looking for the authenticity.”

Jenkins explained that sometimes the emotion hits him. He even cried from behind his monitor while filming the season.

“I still got a job to do. But sometimes God’s going to hit you regardless of whether you’re ready for it or not,” he said.

The eight episodes of Season 6 take place over a period of 24 hours, The Salt Lake Tribune reported, but it will take about two months to film.

“We know where the story is going,” said Reza Diako, who plays Phillip. “It’s painful. It’s difficult. But what makes it different with THE CHOSEN is that we’ve built a journey with these characters for five, six seasons. So it’s not just a reenactment of an iconic moment. It’s more like losing a family member.”

Season 5 of THE CHOSEN streams on Prime on June 15. Season 6 will likely launch in late 2026, with its finale premiering in theaters on March 12.
