Nearly 10 months after Christian conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s tragic assassination at Utah Valley University, the trial against his alleged killer is now underway.
Tyler Robinson, the suspect accused of assassinating Kirk on Sept. 10, 2025, has appeared at the preliminary court hearings, which began on Monday, July 6.
During proceedings on July 7, David Hull, the law enforcement officer in charge of leading the investigation, testified that surveillance footage showed Robinson’s alleged movements throughout the day. Robinson arrived on campus four hours before the shooting in shorts and a T-shirt, ate at a Chick-fil-A and interacted with TPUSA staff, per PEOPLE.
Prosecutors also brought footage of “an individual on the roof of a building on campus at the time of the shooting who later lowered himself from the building while holding something in his hand,” the outlet reported.
Additionally, forensic investigators testified that Robinson’s DNA was found on a towel used to wrap a Mauser 98 rifle, which was recovered from a wooded area on campus alongside a screwdriver.
Robinson left a note confessing to the assassination.

Kirk’s widow, Erika, along with his parents, Robert and Kathryn, have been in attendance.
“Charlie was a beloved husband, son, brother, friend, and father. Every court proceeding serves as a painful reminder of his death and the loss that has irrevocably impacted our lives and the lives of his children,” the family said in a statement before the trial began. “We remain deeply grateful for the support, prayers, and kindness we have received. This outpouring has sustained us during the darkest days of our lives. Out of respect for the judicial process, we will not be commenting further at this time. We ask for continued privacy as we navigate this process and immense grief.”

While in the courtroom, Erika and Kirk parents heard former Utah Valley University police officer Chris Bagley describe what happened to Kirk on Sept. 10. When Bagley proceeded to explain the situation, the Kirk family left the room, according to the Associated Press.
As the court proceedings continue to unfold, the painful reality of Kirk’s absence remains at the forefront for his loved ones and followers alike. The overwhelming evidence presented by the prosecution — from DNA tracking to chilling surveillance footage and a written confession — paints a brutal picture of the events that transpired on that tragic September day.
As the Kirk family’s abrupt departure from the courtroom demonstrates, no amount of forensic proof can ease the raw, living grief of losing a husband, father and son. While the legal system seeks justice and accountability in the days ahead, the emotional toll of reliving an incredibly dark moment reminds us that for those closest to Kirk, the healing process has barely begun.
Keep Kirk’s family in your prayers.
