Cameras are rolling for the upcoming movie A MUSIC CITY STORY, written and directed by Adam Anders (JOURNEY TO BETHLEHEM).
“Written off by Nashville as past her prime, struggling singer-songwriter Mo (Moriah Smallbone) walks away from her controlling manager and takes a chance on starting over,” the synopsis reads, per a press release. “As she works to rebuild her career, she forms an unexpected connection with Ran (Joel Smallbone), a contractor whose encouragement helps her rediscover her faith, her voice and the courage to pursue the future she’s always believed possible.”
Also starring in MUSIC CITY are Veronica Falcón (QUEEN OF THE SOUTH, PERRY MASON), Christine Ebersole (AMADEUS, BOB HEARTS ABISHOLA), Josh Holloway (LOST, DUSTER) and Cress Williams (BLACK LIGHTNING, HART OF DIXIE).
Of course what is a movie based in the Country Music Music Capital without country stars such as Randy Houser and country music icon Tanya Tucker?
“Nashville isn’t just the setting of this film, it’s the heartbeat of it. This is a story about second chances, faith, and the songs we’re still meant to write, and there’s no better place to tell it than Music City,” Anders said in the press release of the upcoming movie.
Real-life couple Joel and Moriah Smallbone (who wrote original music for the movie along with Anders) produced the movie along with produced by Kevin Downes (JESUS REVOLUTION, THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER), Anders and Nick Moceri (SOVEREIGN and JOURNEY TO BETHLEHEM).

For the Smallbones, the story is “deeply personal.”
“We fell in love writing a song together, and now that creative partnership has become a story inspired by our heritage, our marriage, and the dreams we’ve learned to chase side by side. This film is rooted in so many things we love — taking brave risks, making music, and the community we’ve found here in Nashville,” Joel and Moriah said in a joint statement.
Joel and Moriah recently celebrated their thirteenth wedding anniversary with a throwback to their first kiss at the altar.
“13 years later and I’d still say yes,”posted Joel. “Now for the next chapter… @amusiccitystorymovie.”
Fans can currently watch Joel as William Fairfax, friend to George Washington, in YOUNG WASHINGTON.
“[S]ometimes you have to know where you’ve been to know where you’re going maybe History isn’t only simply about the past… maybe it’s about understanding the people, the sacrifices, the triumphs, and the failures that have shaped us,” posted the singer who makes up half of the duo for KING + COUNTRY.
“As as an immigrant to the United States, who’s family chose to make it home, it’s something else to be part of telling a story like this…especially as we approach America’s 250th birthday,” the Australian native added.
An exact release date has not been set for A MUSIC CITY STORY, but it is planned for release in 2027.
