NCIS: NEW YORK will feature Scott Caann as an original new character after his time as Danno in HAWAII FIVE-O.

In most NCIS spin-offs, they feature all-new (lesser-known) actors or familiar faces from the franchise. So to add another familiar TV actor from another show is not the norm, CBR reported.

Caan will star alongside LL Cool J, whose real name is James Todd Smith, who last appeared in NCIS: HAWAI’I. His character, Sam Hanna, who got his start in NCIS: LOS ANGELES, appeared to launch a new branch: NCIS Elite. The new story will likely tie in his past on the two shows.

The NCIS: NEW YORK description reads, “Legendary NCIS Agent Sam Hanna (LL COOL J) returns to his hometown of New York City to their field office, partnering with a roguish agent (Scott Caan) and helping lead a new team as they are tasked with high-stakes missions to defend one of the most vital cities and ports in the world.”

The show will premiere on the network this fall. Jennifer Beals, Jacqueline Byers, Shane Harper and Devin Druid will also star. Beals plays Robyn Wells, director of NCIS New York’s field office, Byers and Wyatt as special agents and Druid will play a tech specialist, TV Line reported.

When CBS announced the show in April, CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach told reporters, “When you’re home to the number one television franchise in the world, you must build on success and keep expanding the universe. quite frankly, our fans demand it.”

Scott Gemmill, creator of THE PITT, will write the pilot and produce with Byron Balasco, Cool J and Jason Barrett. Balasco will serve as showrunner.

“It’s gonna be a lot of fun, a lot of sarcasm, a lot of banter, a lot of witty repartee, a lot of New York,” Cool J told Deadline of the series. “It’s gonna be everything you need to get.”

“They came to me and said that they were thinking about doing an NCIS: New York with Todd, and I said, I’m in. That’s all it takes,” Gemmill said.

The project is extra special for Cool J because the actor is from New York.

“it’s as if his character is going back home, as if Todd himself is going back home,” Gemmill said. “New York is the burning center of the universe, so I was just excited and happy to be asked to be a part of it. And I jumped at the chance.”

NCIS: NEW YORK looks like an exciting addition to the franchise.
