One of the co-owners of The Heirloom Hotel from HOME TOWN: INN THIS TOGETHER, which burned down post-renovation, shared her favorite photos of the building before the fire.

“One of my favorite parts of The Heirloom was getting to dream up all the little design details that made each space feel warm, welcoming, and full of character,” co-owner Mallorie Rasberry wrote on Erin and Ben Napier’s Laurel Mercantile blog. “I thought it would be fun to pull back the curtain a bit and share a few of my favorite choices from the retail space and why they mattered so much to me.”

Her favorite thing about the renovation was the beautiful maple floors.

“Not only did restoring them save a significant portion of our budget, but those hundred-year-old floors quickly became the foundation for the entire design. You simply can’t recreate the warmth, patina, and character that comes with generations of life,” she shared.

After the fire, the team was able to salvage the floors to make them into photo rails, available for sale.

“That alone felt like such a gift, and knowing they’ll continue telling their story in a new way means more than I can say,” she said.

Another favorite was the custom checkout counter. It had maple countertops.

Rasberry wrote, “Like Erin joked on the show, ‘Maple is like a good brassiere — it supports everything and makes it all look better.’ She wasn’t wrong.”

An especially bittersweet goodbye is to the children’s play corner, “Snoozy’s Kitchen.”

“When we were planning the store layout, there was an awkward little area beneath the front staircase. Most people probably would have turned it into storage,” Rasberry said.

As practical as that would have been, Rasberry knew her daughters and other children would love to play there.

“They’ve spent countless hours pretending, taking orders, making imaginary dinners, and creating entire little worlds,” she said of her children. “It’s become one of my favorite corners of our own home. I wanted children visiting The Heirloom to have that same experience.”

The whole renovation of the hotel is shown in HOME TOWN: INN THIS TOGETHER.

The owners plan to rebuild the hotel but are waiting for an insurance company to pay them before they can start again.

On June 25, The Heirloom’s Instagram page teased, “Filming a new Heirloom podcast episode ❤️ | The update y’all have been waiting for + a way each of you can all join the ‘framily’ real soon.”

After the fire, none of the inside of the hotel was usable.

“We now have a roof on the building, so we’ve saved the building,” co-owner Joshua Nowell recently told HGTV. “And that’s important to us because that building has stood as an icon in our downtown since we were little boys, Jim and me. We have not started construction yet on the inside to bring it back, but the building is safe, and we can properly evaluate what’s next.”

After the show’s finale aired, Ben Napier said of the hotel, “We don’t know what the future holds, but we know God holds us.”
