Remember that movie SUPER SIZE ME about what happened if one man ate McDonald’s for every meal for 30 days? Well, Netflix is cooking up something similar, but with fried chicken as the star.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, BIG CHICKEN: A FAST FOOD CONSPIRACY will follow British comedian Mo Gilligan as he eats “nothing but fried chicken” for 28 days. It releases Aug. 5.

“Made by the incredible Mindhouse team, the people behind LOUIS THEROUX: INSIDE THE MANOSPHERE, this started as me eating fried chicken three times a day for 28 days. I thought I knew chicken. Turns out, I knew nowhere near enough,” Gilligan posted on Facebook about the documentary.

“From South London to the US, I wanted to understand where our obsession with fried chicken comes from, who profits from it, what it means for our health and the planet, and why this one food carries so much history, he continued. “As a Black British comedian, it was important for me to challenge the stereotypes around Black people and fried chicken, unpack where those ideas came from and reclaim a dish that’s part of a much bigger story than the one we’ve been told.”

“I met some incredible people along the way, from historians and farmers to nutrition experts and industry insiders. Every conversation taught me something,” Gilligan added. “This is probably the most exposing thing I’ve ever done, and I can’t wait for you all to see it.”

Fast food chicken did get its moment back in 2017 in Morgan Spurlock’s, who starred in the original SUPER SIZE ME, SUPER SIZE ME 2: HOLY CHICKEN!.

The documentary “digs into the fast food chicken industry. To discover what’s happening, Spurlock opens up his own fast food chicken restaurant. He buys a chicken farm and baby chicks, works with a team to create a brand and menu, and begins serving the people of Columbus, Ohio. However, Spurlock’s restaurant tells customers the truth about what they’re eating, how the chickens were raised and how the farmers are getting shortchanged by the large companies and government bureaucracy running the industry,” Movieguide® said in its review of the documentary.

It “shines light on some business practices in the American chicken industry. For instance, it shows how the large chicken companies like Tyson collide with the state and federal governments to keep farmers in debt to the large companies, which sells baby chicks, feed and equipment to farmers.”

Viewers are eager to see what new revelations about the chicken industry Gilligan’s documentary will uncover.
