Tori Kelly knows that if she loses her identity as a singer, it will all be okay.
“I’m really grateful that I still love what I do, but it’s not my identity anymore,” the singer explained on the “Relevant” podcast. “I think that’s like the biggest difference is you can take away any of these things… like, If you took away my voice would I still be alright? …Yes but simply because of my faith and knowing where my identity is.”
It gives her a lot of peace to know that being a singer is not all that she is.
Kelly’s newest album is called God Must Really Love Me, and it’s about what’s most important to her — faith.
“I was pretty clear on what I wanted to say, which were three pillars: My faith, my marriage, and then motherhood,” Kelly told Variety. “I was like, this is the album and where I’m at. From there, it just really started taking shape.”
She feels very fulfilled in her life right now as a new mom.

“I’m so happy right now,” Kelly said. “That’s really why I wanted to call it God Must Really Love Me, because when I took a step back and listened to the songs, it’s a feeling of gratitude, like look at these blessings in my life. God must really love me.”
Kelly is currently on tour with Forrest Frank for his Jesus Generation Tour — an experience she says she loves.
“It feels so uplifting and encouraging and there’s just this sense of hope that is in [the venue]. People are coming — I think probably similar to me — to be a part of something that’s bigger than themselves,” she told The Mercury News.
“They want to come and lift up the name of Jesus and be in a room of people who believe in the same thing. But even if you don’t believe in the same thing and you don’t share the same faith, I think you would still be able to come and gain something from it and still enjoy your night,” Kelly said.
When the news outlet asked this week what her fans can pray for her about, she asked for prayer to be present as a mom and for a good career and family balance.
“I’m not only on tour but I’m also putting out this album, so there’s all this like promo and different things that come with that that are going to keep me pretty busy,” she said. “So, I think just keeping my heart right — making sure I’m getting my alone time and my quiet time, centering myself and, of course, being a mom. It would be great if I could get some prayer for that — and just figuring all of this out.”
Kelly’s got a strong foundation in God.
