As Americans grow more concerned about Big Tech’s influence on their lives, many are calling for greater transparency and accountability from these companies.
“A new Fox News Poll finds voters now view Big Tech — not Big Government — as the greater threat to the nation’s future, a striking turnaround from seven years ago,” Fox News reported.
Their poll found that 52% of people see Big Tech as “the greater threat to the outlook of the country rather than big government,” which is “a 28-point reversal since 2019 — three years before ChatGPT burst onto the scene.”
“As AI integrates into daily life, voters are reevaluating where power resides,” pollster Chris Anderson told the outlet of the results. “Concerns about government overreach are shifting toward tech companies, as voters question whether rapid growth has concentrated too much power in institutions largely outside of public accountability.”
Many agree with Anderson’s analysis; PR organization Hamilton Strategies released a statement about the poll and its findings.
“Americans are recognizing artificial intelligence and Big Tech now wield extraordinary influence over nearly every aspect of daily life, often without meaningful accountability,” Col. Robert L. Maness, USAF-ret, said in the company’s statement. “As these companies expand their control over information, personal data and emerging AI technologies, protecting individual liberty requires greater transparency, responsible oversight and safeguards that keep innovation aligned with the public interest.”
He continued, “Our military is embracing artificial intelligence as a force multiplier, not as a substitute for human judgment. That same principle should guide the private sector. America can lead the world in AI innovation while ensuring these powerful technologies strengthen freedom rather than erode it. We must prevent concentrated corporate power from outpacing the constitutional principles that safeguard our republic.”

This isn’t the only survey conducted about the American public’s opinion on AI’s fast-growing spread.
A YouGov poll found that “most Americans (71%) feel that the pace of AI development is moving too fast,” and that “three-quarters (74%) of Americans…say they are pessimistic about AI’s long-term effects.”

“Young adults are more likely than older Americans to believe that AI will create economic gains that benefit everyone, but they are also more likely to worry that AI will replace jobs they depend upon,” the poll explained.
While it’s clear that AI is here to stay, people all over the country are calling on the government to regulate Big Tech, demanding accountability and transparency about how this technology is being used.
