Get ready for a new set of Marvel heroes to join SPIDEY AND HIS AMAZING FRIENDS.
“This season will introduce a new ‘Rescue-Webs’ story arc in which Team Spidey is able to tackle even more daring rescues with their new Spidey-themed firetruck and rescue gear,” a press release from Disney announced. “Along the way, they will team up with Super Hero friends Rocket, Groot, Mr. Fantastic and Silk.”
The upcoming season will also introduce a new villain — Symbie, a symbiote from space who causes chaos for Spider-Man and his friends.
This isn’t the first time SPIDEY AND HIS AMAZING FRIENDS have introduced other superheroes. Last year, the webslinger teamed up with the Avengers for MARVEL’S SPIDEY AND IRON MAN: AVENGERS TEAM UP.

“I have young kids at home, and kids love get-togethers. Anyone who has ever been to a preschool or a birthday party knows how exciting a day with your friends can be,” Harvey Wilcox, executive producer on both SPIDEY AND HIS AMAZING FRIENDS and IRON MAN AND HIS AMAZING FRIENDS, told Disney.
He explained that the special was intended to capture the same kind of excitement, adding, “The title of the show, SPIDEY AND HIS AMAZING FRIENDS, does not undersell — Spidey does have some very amazing friends! And with the longer format of the special, it gave us a chance to see him sharing the screen with so many Avengers.”
Wilcox also shared his commitment to creating shows that the whole family can watch together.
“I want kids to be able to learn and enjoy the Marvel universe and be able share that experience with their older siblings and their parents and their grandparents,” he said, adding that he hopes to “continue this trend of… bringing in this younger audience so that they can find the same things that the rest of us love about Marvel.”
Alyssa Sapire, the head of Disney Jr. Original Programming and Strategy, made similar comments to The Wrap earlier this year.
“We know the impact on preschoolers is potentially huge in such an exciting way. We want to make sure that we’re doing it responsibly and in a way that they both see as fun and that they’re getting some of those great social and emotional messages,” she said of the show. “ I’m just so excited that we’re able to lay the foundation, and continue to find fresh ways to tell those stories.”
SPIDEY AND HIS AMAZING FRIENDS Season 5 premieres July 13.
