Everyone’s favorite mystery-solving dog is coming to Netflix in the live-action series SCOOBY DOO: ORIGINS.
The new series is already in production and will arrive on Netflix sometime in 2027.
“Premiering in 2027, SCOOBY DOO: ORIGINS will follow Shaggy (Tanner Hagen) and his old pal Daphne Blake (Mckenna Grace) during their final summer at camp, as seen in the new teaser. The teens become embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely, lost Great Dane puppy that may have witnessed a supernatural murder,” a press release described.
It continued, “With help from the pragmatic and scientific townie Velma Dinkley (Abby Ryder Fortson) and the strange but ever-so-handsome new kid Fred Jones (Maxwell Jenkins), they set out to solve the case that’s pulling them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all their secrets.”
The release notes that production is taking place in Atlanta, Georgia and began in April.
The series will be executive produced by Josh Appelbaum, Scott Rosenberg, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner and Adrienne Erickson, with Berlanti Productions and Midnight Radio serving as the production companies behind the project. Toby Haynes is also on board as an executive producer and will direct the show’s first episode.

In a post to Instagram, Mckenna Grace, who plays Daphne, shared her excitement for the role.
“Oh my jeepers😭💜 I can’t believe life is real I could cry all over again just looking at this announcement. So thankful, SO excited. 🚙🔎💜” she said in the caption.
Generations of children have loved Scooby-Doo.
The iconic pup made his first appearance over 50 years ago on Sept. 13, 1969 in a CBS kids series titled SCOOBY-DOO WHERE ARE YOU! Interestingly, the creation of Scooby-Doo was an attempt to make less-violent children’s content after the assassination of President Kennedy in 1968.
Another fun fact? Scooby-Doo’s real name is “Scoobert Doo.”
Since his inception, several other Scooby-Doo adaptations have been made. In 2002, the live-action SCOOBY-DOO was released, although Scooby himself was animated.
Movieguide®’s review of the movie reads, “SCOOBY-DOO tries to straddle the fence between being a children’s movie and entertainment for teenagers. In trying to go beyond the television series, SCOOBY-DOO violates some of the principles that made the original television series so popular: the violence is too intense at times; the college weekend is too salacious; and, some of the scary moments are over the top.”
Movieguide® notes, “On the other hand, SCOOBY-DOO is not sharp enough for teenagers. Despite the strong occult content, there are some clear moral points and some acts of people sacrificing themselves for others. SCOOBY-DOO is not a bad movie, but it could have been much better.”
Hopefully the upcoming live-action series will be even better.
