TOY STORY 5 stars Tom Hanks, Joan Cusack, Tim Allen and Greta Lee recently shared why TOY STORY 5 is a game changer for family entertainment this year.
In the movie, Bonnie, the toys’ kid, gets a new toy — a tablet.
The movie’s synopsis reads, “The toys are back in Disney and Pixar’s TOY STORY 5, and this time it’s Toy meets Tech. Buzz, Woody, Jessie and the rest of the gang’s jobs are challenged when they’re introduced to what kids are obsessed with today….electronics!”
“It’s about little girls and how little girls behave to each other and cliques and what tech does to little girls and how you can be mean and keep kids out, and it’s so great,” Cusack, who plays Jessie, told Fandango. “I can’t believe they took it on.”
Allen, who voices Buzz Lightyear, said it’s about more than meanness to girls. It’s about meanness to children.

He added, “Boys are mean in a very different way, but mean is the same,” and the writers weren’t afraid to address it.
“It’s very timely. It’s important,” Lee, who plays Lily Pad, added of the movie’s message.
Hanks, Woody’s voice, said each one of the TOY STORY movies touches its viewers because there is always an element of human heart.
“There is a moment in all of them that speaks directly to who we are as human beings,” he said.
In another interview, Cusack said, “I know every parent in the United States worries about their kids. When do you get them involved in tech? What does that do to their brains?”
“And that’s what this movie’s about. It’s about humanity and playing and loyalty — and it makes me cry,” she said.
Like in the other four TOY STORY movies, the main actors were all happy to be a part of another installment and be a part of Pixar.
Cusack said, “It’s so cool to be part of an artist’s community ‘cause Pixar is a crazy artist place….all those different rooms with the TV lines and people, and so you’re just doing your little piece of their world.”
Hanks agreed: “You see through the glass of an office where a meeting is going on and all these people are waving their arms and laughing and writing stuff down and drawing.”
“It’s really cool to even just have someone in that room [say] ‘Try to get in this way because of this’ and it’s some interesting idea,” Cusack explained.
TOY STORY 5 comes out in theaters on June 19.
