Episode 1 of THE OLD STORIES: MOSES, streaming on Prime Video’s Wonder Project platform, kicks off a three-part miniseries on the story of Moses. A spinoff from THE HOUSE OF DAVID series, the episode opens with David’s father telling his children about Moses. As Jesse tells the story, we are transported back in time to Moses as he confronts the burning bush. God commands Moses to return to Egypt to free His people. Moses resists, claiming the people won’t believe or listen, but God gives Moses miraculous power through his staff to prove that the Lord is real and with him. Moses must decide whether to serve God or keep avoiding the one place where he knows he’s not welcome.

Episode 1 of THE OLD STORIES: MOSES has stunning visuals and superb acting that really captures the viewer’s attention. It’s a short fast episode that leaves viewers ready to jump right to the next one. No explicit content is seen or heard in Episode 1 of MOSES, but there’s some light violence and hints of violence. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for younger children.

Episode 1 of THE OLD STORIES: MOSES, streaming on Prime Video’s Wonder Project platform, kicks off a three-part miniseries on the life of Moses. The miniseries is a spinoff from THE HOUSE OF DAVID series.

Episode 1 opens with David’s father telling his children the story of Moses. As Jesse tells the story, we are transported back in time to Moses as he confronts the burning bush. Moses is tending his flock of sheep in the open desert, during the night, when he sees a fire up on the hillside off Mount Horeb. Intrigued, he climbs up to it and finds a bush completely engulfed in flames. The odd thing is that the bush isn’t actually burning up, it’s just spouting flames or even wrapped in flames. Perplexed, he moves closer, and immediately, a powerful voice shakes the desert.

God speaks to Moses and gives him a task. He commands Moses to go to Egypt, where he was once a prince, and free His people from the grip of the Egyptians. Moses pushes back. He explains to God that the people there won’t believe him. God, in turn, gives Moses the ability to transform his staff into a snake and have other powers to show the people there who God is. There is an internal struggle inside Moses as he wrestles with his fear of man and his commitment to God.

Episode 1 of THE OLD STORIES: MOSES offers incredible acting and stunning visuals. It does a great job of capturing and holding your attention. While the episode is brief, it lays a solid foundation for the rest of the miniseries.

Episode 1 of THE OLD STORIES: MOSES comes from a strong biblical worldview. It depicts the story of the burning bush in a very accurate, biblical way. The episode has some light violence. For instance, a flashback set in Egypt shows Hebrew slaves being whipped. Also, a bloody knife is shown that was just used to kill a man. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for younger children.
