“Eloise” fans just got a first look at the upcoming live-action Netflix adaptation of the beloved children’s book series.
“Mae Schenk was spotted shooting Netflix’s live-action movie at the iconic Manhattan hotel, and she looks exactly like an ‘Eloise’ illustration come to life!” Entertainment Tonight reported, alongside photos of Schenk in Eloise’s iconic black jumper and pink hair ribbon.

Eloise first delighted readers over 60 years ago in “Eloise,” written by Kay Thompson and illustrated by Hilary Knight. Three other books followed, with two more published more recently.
In addition to Schenk, Ryan Reynolds, Sally Hawkins, Victor Garber, David Haig, Max Casella and Isaac Bae are all set to star. GILMORE GIRLS creator Amy Sherman-Palladino is on board as director and co-writer.
Reynolds, who will play an “original villainous character,” is co-producing the upcoming movie through his company, Maximum Effort.
“When Amy introduced us to Mae Schenk, we knew instantly she was Eloise,” said Maximum Effort’s co-presidents of production Ashley Fox and Johnny Pariseau. “She’s got the spark, the wit and just the right amount of mischief. We’re so excited to introduce her to the world with our friends at MRC and Netflix.”
The still-untitled ELOISE movie was announced in November of 2025. The project has been in development since 2020.
“Eloise has been beloved for generations, from when she was first published in the 1950s through to today, when no family trip to New York City is complete without a stop at The Plaza,” Hannah Minghella, Head of Feature Animation and Family Film at Netflix, said in a statement. “It’s an honor to reintroduce this cherished character to the world with two people who share her signature mischief and charm — Amy Sherman-Palladino and Ryan Reynolds — in this bold, hilarious, and heartfelt new family film.”
Netflix has been working alongside independent movie and TV studio MRC, which acquired the rights to Eloise in 2019 and is overseeing the movie’s production.
“We’ve been working with the [author Kay] Thompson estate and Handmade Films for a long time to bring Eloise to fans everywhere, and we’re thrilled to be partnering with Maximum Effort, Amy, and Netflix to bring the cherished children’s property to audiences around the world,” MRC Film co-presidents Jonathan Golfman and Brye Adler shared.
Eloise has previously been brought to the screen in made-for-TV movies ELOISE AT THE PLAZA and ELOISE AT CHRISTMASTIME, as well as an animated series, ME, ELOISE!
Fans of the famous book character are excited to see Eloise brought to life once again!
